I feel like life has become very "one step forward, one step back" recently. Things have been pretty under control, although we're still unpacking the house! Bought some shelves at IKEA so we can actually put some stuff away, but they were sold out of one piece we need to really make it all happen. And with a house it just seems like there is always something to do. It's a much bigger space to keep clean, and let's be honest, Chris is not much of a help there. And even though it's tiny, we now have a yard to take care of with some weeding and mowing, which is also not Chris's forte. In fact he asked me the other day how we were going to get rid of the big weed in the front yard, which confused me until I realized he was talking about one of the small bushes.

Then the car went into the shop on Friday because it was acting up for Chris--we find out tomorrow if it's a major problem that isn't worth fixing, which would require us purchasing a new car (or at least new-to-us) ASAP. Which was not how we were hoping to spend our money yet. But at least Chris now has a pretty awesome job, so I guess it could be worse. But it's also our only car, so we're also spending a decent amount on having a rental car. And since I'm out of town all week, the rental car is in Chris's name...which sucks because he is still 24, so it's $15 a day extra! Total crap.

I just have such big hopes for everything, and I would love the money to do it. But I'm genuinely happy, so I can't complain. It would just be so convenient if I could win the lottery here soon :) Is stability too much to ask for???!!!

So this week I'm in Philadelphia, which means I get to see Reina and baby Natalie!!! I also had the pleasure of seeing my friend Jill (down from NY) and the Kennedy Center production of "Follies" last Friday. I really loved the show despite a few flaws, but just a powerful production with some great talent in the lead roles.

I think the biggest resolution for my life right now is to get more active in my community and actually make some Virginia friends. I literally have no friends, other than my brother-in-law and his family in Virginia. I do have Liz and a couple others in DC, which is awesome, but now that Chris and I are settled, I think we really need to start building our crew. Which honestly isn't easy with my travel schedule. I think realistically I kind of have to wait until the end of June since I'll be out of town for about 2.5 weeks in the middle. Current plans are I would love to start volunteering at the animal shelter, but it's a bit of a drive, so we'll have to see how the car situation works out. Also, there's a dance school near me that offers adult classes that I'm eager to take...but it doesn't appear they do much over the summer (typical of dance schools). I would also love to do more theatre, but again my schedule makes it awkward.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to meet people in a new community when you don't really have coworkers/an office to help? We've met a few of our neighbors, but they seems to be at different points in their lives (middle aged couple with kids our age, lots of young family with kids...which we're not ready for yet). Just need to find other kidless twenty somethings.
