Reminder: my birthday show is this Saturday...
I've been wicked busy lately. Let's see if i can remember everything since last update...
Thursday night was the Irate show at Dingbatz. It was a shitload of fun! Irate was amazing. I'm gonna miss them. Talked to Dallas from God Forbid some more. Cool dude. I nodded off a couple of times during Irate (i was sitting onstage), and my friend Sarah supposedly took a picture of this. Gotta get that from her. Didn't get home (after dropping off Naama) til around 2 in the morning. Of course, i can't just lay down immediately and go to sleep, it takes me a bit to unwind. I didn't end up passing out til almost 3 in the morning.
Friday was the big night! Our debut at The Chance. God damn we had a fun night! It was fucking COLD. Anthony rode up with me. Naama couldn't make it cuz she had tickets for Silverstein. She wasn't there physically, but she did manage to save my life regardless!! She got for me some weird squeeze candy in a plastic tube a few days earlier. I had some and the rest had been sitting in my car. Since I still had only about 3 hours of sleep the night before, i wasn't on the road very long before I REALLY started to nod off behind the wheel. We were on the Taconic State Parkway, and it doesn't have normal rest areas where i could've stopped to get coffee or something. I was trying to think what was off what exit and if there was someplace i can get off and not have to go too far off the highway. As i'm pondering this, i say to Anthony "do you have any gum or candy or something dude?" He doesn't have anything. Then i glance at the radio, and then just underneath it, and see Naama's plastic squeeze candy tube thing!! YES!! I grab it and start sucking that sugary, life-saving goodness like i'm a prize winning hooker! Anthony even says "dude...you realize how bad this looks, right?" We both laugh.
A few good friends came out, like Battah and my former coworkers Patti (who i'm real tight with) and Jeanie. We get there and commandeered one of the dressing rooms. Thankfully it had a heater. Sure enough, we're the first band there. Doesn't matter, better to show up with time to spare than to show up in a rush (like we did the next night.) Since we were going on first, we sound checked last. We finally set up and run through a song real quick. It sounded awesome onstage! But since the stage door kept opening and closing, it was also cold!! After the song, i guess all the bands that were there and their friends that were watching us really dug us, cuz everyone started applauding after that song, hahaha! We're done and head upstairs to warm up some more before showtime. While i'm up there, Patti calls to tell me that she's there. I tell her to relax since we're going onstage in a bit and i'm warming up. Showtime and we had an AWESOME time! God damn i wish there was a video of that show. After we're done, we take some stuff upstairs and some out to the car. Patti and Jeanie congratulate me on an awesome show.
Now here's the hilarious part of the evening:
At one point, Jeanie goes to the bathroom. She comes back and tells us about something that happend in the bathroom. She's washing her hands or something, and hears from a stall "Yeah, Walter's totally making out with Patti! It's like getting obscene at the bar." Me and Patti are like "WHAAAAAT????? Who the fuck said that??" Jeannie says "some little blond girl with her hair pulled up. I poked my head over the stall and said 'EXCUSE ME HONEY! I'M WITH PATTI, SHE'S GETTING MARRIED IN TWO WEEKS!!'." At that point, we all just die laughing. I recognized the "little blond girl" description as being that of BATTAH. I'm all flabbergasted! I'm like "what the fuck? why is she trying to throw me under the bus like that?" So a little while later, Battah finally comes out from the bathroom, and I do the classic "come here" motion with my finger. I put my arm around her and go "so what's this i hear you spreading falsehoods? Why are you tryin to throw me under the bus?" We all start laughing our asses off, including Battah. Evidently she was on the phone with her boyfriend Rick and CLAIMED she was kidding around. Yeah yeah yeah ;)
Patti, Jeanie and Battah all bounced soon thereafter. The rest of the show was really fun. I don't remember the middle bands. Hindrense (our roommates) headlined. They're the ones that got us on the show to begin with. They were REALLY good. They'd gotten so much better from when i first semi-remember hearing them a few years ago. On our way home, me and Anthony stopped off at a Mobil station and got a couple of microwave pizzas. I probably took off a few years of life with em, but hey, they tasted good!
Saturday was our show at The Hook in Brooklyn. Nice place. We're playing there again in a few weeks. We had to sell tickets, as part of that silly Emergenza festival. Normally wouldn't have been a problem, but we were SUPER focused on our sales for The Chance the night before. Add to the fact that IRATE was having their final show at North Six, a mere 10 minutes away with God Forbid. LOVELY! Needless to say, we sold one ticket. One. To Naama. Ahhhh, can always count on her! Had a good time. In an interesting twist of events, Diego's new band was playing!! We didn't know that. It was weird and tense at first, but the ice was broken and we all had a good time. His band was pretty good. I still say we're better, but whatever, haha!
Yesterday, went to the Bodies Exhibition with Naama and her brother's girlfriend. It was really cool! I wouldn't mind going again sometime. It's here until April.
Tonight, Black Dahlia Murder, Throwdown, Red Chord & The Agony Scene at Avalon (the artist formerly known as Limelight.) Should be a good time.
On Wednesday, Naama goes back to Israel, so a bunch of people are getting together with her to send her off good and drunk. I made her a chocolate chip cheesecake for the occasion. I'm really gonna miss her. It was nice having a close friend nearby. She plans on moving here in about a year. I hope it happens. Me and her spent pretty much at least 4 or 5 days out of the week every week since she's been here hanging out. Been a blast.
Now perhaps I'll be able to catch a decent night's sleep, hahaha!
Aight back to pretending to work.
