Does anyone know how to get the base (metal part) of a lightbulb out of the socket? But here's the odd part... the glass bulb is still inside the base... except it's loose, making it impossible to turn. The edge of the base is ~flush with the edge of the socket, making it near impossible to grip it with pliers, even if the bulb still wasn't in it

Break off the bulb. Use a potato to grip the jagged edge and turn. If there isn't enough grip, put a pair of needlenose in the sock and open them out to grip the metal from the inside.

Those guys beat me to it! The potato thing usually works.

Just make sure you turn the power off first, duh.

Well, the power thing is an issue... it's the light in the ceiling fan above our kitchen table. I suppose I could trip the circuit breaker.....
