In-Character Information
Name : Willard Theodoros "Bill" Grey
Game/Series: Starfox
Canon Point: Circa Starfox 64, before his weird-o redesign and whatever the hell else they did to him post-64.
Age & Teaching Position: 24/Philosophy. He's the same age as Fox, and I can't find the info anywhere, so I'm just going with 24 for now.
Living Arrangements: TD-26

Personality: Bill is a very laid-back kind of guy. He prefers not to let the little things bother him. If a BIG thing happens to come around, he tries to shrug it off and find the most peaceful resolution possible, even in the most dire of circumstances. His uncanny ability to stay aloof has caused his peers to question whether he's on weed. (Note: He's not.) He tends to surround himself with the positive and avoid the negative; or, when avoidance is impossible, turn the situation into a more positive one. He doesn't always succeed, but he sure tries hard. He goes by the philosophy that we all CAN get along if we'd only learn to communicate better and find a common ground.

One thing that makes him stand out from the crowd is his insufferable attempts to charm the ladies. It is practically his life's goal: experience the greatness that is the variety of female bodies in the world/universe. He's moved past the pick-up line stage at this point and now chooses the lethal combo of flattery and borderline-creepy dedication. ...That is, until he finally gets a sample of the goods. Then it's on to the next lucky lady. He'd be lying if he said he'd never broken a few hearts. Deep down, he harbors a bit of self-resentment for his manipulative ways. He DOES favor peace and love, and him sleeping around doesn't exactly promote that agenda very well. But he can't help himself. He tells himself that one day, he'll find the right girl to settle down with, but he's not sure whether he truly believes it or not. All he knows is that when on the rare occasion he opens up to someone about it, they seem to believe him.

Bill is also a sucker for recreation. Though he tends to talk like one, he's not actually a surfer dude. Despite the VAST amount of beaches on Corneria, he never quite took to the hobby. He prefers socializing in a more relaxed, less active environment, like bars. He loves bars. Not only are the ladies easier to pick up when they're drunk, but he LOVES getting drunk himself, not to mention the fact that they play pretty awesome music there. Why does he love getting drunk? He's not entirely sure. One day, he'll come to realize it drowns out a pain he barely knows he has--the agony of never knowing his birth father or why he'd run out on Bill and his mother. At least with wine, women, and song, he can feel like he's happy for a few hours at a time.

Backstory junk in the Personality section: He idolized Fox's father, James. It was the closest thing to a father figure he ever had, and he took it almost as hard as Fox did when they heard the news of James' death. James was such an inspiration to him that he directly influenced Bill's decision to become a professional pilot in the Cornerian army once he came of age. Also, Bill never had a brother, and as such considered Fox to be his surrogate brother. Being friends with Fox, constantly surrounded by the desire to better the world, Bill couldn't help but follow his lead. In that way, Fox is almost a role-model to him. This life-long do-gooder drive has made Bill the outwardly-positive soul he is today. He's motivated by the desire to make James (and by association, Fox) proud by spreading the love, even if his methods are a bit misguided.

Note: As previously stated, he, like, talks like a radical surfer dude, man. This can make him come off almost buffoonish. He is, on the contrary, rather good at things when he puts his mind to it. One doesn't accend to leader of both the Husky and Bulldog flight units without that trait. Though, due to some discrimination he's faced in his lifetime, in both professional and interpersonal (i.e. potentially intimate) situations, he puts effort into hiding his accent and mannerisms to avoid scrutiny.

Backstory: Bill is the only boy in a family (litter?) of 6. Yes, he has 5 sisters. Standing out to his parents wasn't hard because of this fact, but being surrounded by girliness every waking hour of the day made him rather surly as a young boy. He took to his father quite well, learning from him the usual criteria for being a real man, until the day that their father ran out on the family. Both Bill and his mother were completely heartbroken. His mother coped by doting on his sisters and practically brainwashing them with stories of how males are jerkface bastards. Naturally, Bill couldn't relate, and he grew to resent it when his sisters started treating him poorly because of what they'd been told. To cope with the havoc at home and with the pain of knowing his role model had abandoned him, Bill spent a lot of his free time visiting his best friend, Fox, whose father was revered in his career and genuinely cared about his son.  James eventually became Bill's new role model, and Bill grew to love him as a second father.

When Bill hit the ripe age of 13, he was enlisted in the Fight Academy on Corneria with Fox, hoping to someday emulate James' success. The two graduated in the same class with high honors. At their graduation ceremony, James stood and clapped for them both, beaming with pride, which Bill still considers the happiest day of his life. Recruited straight out of the Academy, Bill worked his way to the top position of the defense squadron on neighboring planet Katina, but due to the planet's constant bombardment of assaults and the stress it pushed on him, especially when he lost pilots under his command, he resigned after his third year, realizing he desired a calmer, more stable life and decided to travel abroad until he could find a real place to call home.

He remained a wanderer for a few years, pulling odd-jobs in interstellar delivery and communication until he heard about Fox's (and later, Falco's and Slippy's) arrival on.... um... AT SMASH ACADEMY. He immediately set course for their destination. If they'd found happiness there, then, he figured, so would he. At the very least, he'd get to see Fox again, and that thought alone made him happier than he'd been in a while. He never fancied himself a teacher, but he eventually warmed up to the idea, especially after visiting a few of the neighboring bars and party houses. The females here were strange but intriguing to him. Thanks to some, um, not-so-compatible body part issues after his first few tries, he took an adult class on Humanization off-campus, and his life has been grand ever since. ...Assuming he's actually able to get a girl that far. Sometimes it's just hit-or-miss.

So, assuming Bill gets the job as the new Philosophy teacher, he will be residing on campus, checking out the hot teachers (and possibly the barely-legal students) and just generally taking it easy. Though he loves to pilot his custom Arwing every now and then out of a sense of duty to James, he's at least responsible enough to know joy-riding isn't a good thing to do when you have papers to grade. Plus, James is dead anyway and can't frown on him for not being the ace pilot he used to be. At least, he likes to tell himself that.

Anything Else?: So, dude, I've, like, totally loved Bill since BEFORE I got SF64, and I totally drew fanart and stuff. This isn't a surfer dude accent! Oh my god, girl. But props to you if you get the stupid joke in his full name. It's not even, like, a joke. That fanart is, though. It is now, anyway.
