I promised
maureen that I would post the story about how Tim and I met today (our second anniversary). If you've already heard this story - or are completely uninterested for some reason - do not follow the cut!
So, the summer of 2006 was a pretty wild summer for me. I recently had my heart broken and I was partying pretty intensely as a result. There was a guy I worked with that became by BFWB (best friend with benefits) and I was quite happy
Then I met Tim.
One night after a few drinks with the BFWB, we had a disagreement and I decided to go back to my own house instead of staying with him in the city (he lived in the hotel where we worked so I usually stayed with him every night instead of driving). On my way to my house, I stopped in at a bar where I used to work where my ex spent most of his time. I will admit here that I was hoping to run into the ex, but there was someone much better waiting for me! Come to find out, it was Tim's first night training at the bar. Since I had spent so much time there in the recent past I knew everyone there except him. We talked for about an hour or so - long enough for me to order food and eat - and I left. And that was that.
Or so I though...
Prior to that visit it had been about two months since I had been to Longnecks (the bar) but after that night I found myself stopping in once every week or two. I would stop by on my way home from the bar after work and stay for two to three hours. One afternoon, I got to leave work early and I went straight to Longnecks. Tim was there so I asked him if he would split a nice bottle of wine with me. We had discussed wine in the past but Longnecks had shitty wine. I went to a restaurant a few blocks from the bar and bought us a bottle of Montevina's Old Vine Zinfandel. After we finished that bottle, he sent me back for two more. We sipped our wine until all of the customers left and it was just the two of us left in the bar. We stayed for a few more hours after that too! After three bottles of good wine and eight hours of great company, I left to go home. When he walked me out to my car, he kissed me. On the ride home I called a mutual friend and informed her that I had just had my very last first kiss.
Seriously!
Two nights later I went back to Longnecks with a friend of mine and we were pretty drunk upon arrival. After a few more drinks and some shots, we were GONE. One of the other regulars drove my car for me to bring her home. When we got back to the bar I handed Tim my keys and told him that it was his job to make sure I got home safely. On a side note, that was really a rule at that bar. The bartender had to make sure nobody drove too drunk because all of the customers were regulars and the owners didn't want anyone to get hurt.
We closed Longnecks, went to another bar with two other customers, then we headed back to his house.
The next morning we got up and went out to lunch, then dinner, then he asked me to come back home with him again. And the next night. And the next.
Its been almost four years and we still have yet to spend a night apart (if you don't count when I had to work over-night on the grave shift).
That's about it. I tried to keep it short and to the point because I can get pretty long-winded when I tell this story!
On an unrelated note, today we celebrated our anniversary by going out to lunch, then going to the educational supply store and Toys-R-Us with Benjamin. We bought him an alphabet boarder with Dr Seuss characters and rhymes on it, a set of numbers to hang on the wall (1-20) with the same Dr Seuss characters, a Dr Seuss height chart and a set of twelve dinosaur wall hangings. We also got him a big colorful map of the US, a globe and some workbooks and flash cards with letters, numbers, shapes and colors. Then, from Toys-R-Us, we got him
the Shrek DVD, a Land Before Time DVD and
this kick ass train table!
After our fun-filled day of shopping, we came home so Tim could cut the grass. Ben went to my MIL's house. I rearranged his room and hung all the wall decorations up for him. Then Tim and I put the table together and assebled the train track. Sadly, when we picked him up from the MIL, he was already asleep so he still hasn't seen the table. I'm so sad! I can't wait for him to see it tomorrow...
