Why did no one tell me about The Riches? I've also got my eye on Life on Mars and The Dresden Files, but haven't begun either of them yet. But really: why did no one tell me about The Riches? I'm a little shocked that my entire flist isn't all asquee with it. I've only seen the first three episodes, so don't spoil me please, but wow am I

Also, I have no idea what's going on with Wayne's accent, but it always sounds wonderfully slippery, like he doesn't even know what he's supposed to sound like anymore.

LOVE THIS SHOW in a quiet sort of way. I haven't really gone looking for the fandom at all, but I've been enjoying the episodes. I do really love the idea of Traveller culture, however fictionalized it is on the show, and how it slides so neatly into the ideas of Hunter Culture from SPN.

Did you?! I apologize. And I wonder what other delightful things my flist has been trying to show me, that just haven't registered with me in an "I need to see this RIGHT NOW" sort of way. ;)

Eddie's accent is a bit dodgy. But then, I think that Brits who try to do American accents always ending up sounding like Canadians. I think his American accent is pretty good, though, especially as he's layering them: the middle-class middle-American over top of the camper trash other voice.

I do find his accent a little jarring, particularly because it's so different from the rest of the Travellers, but eh, oh well, everthing else about his performance is fantastic.

I'm rooting for the Watsonian explanation over the Doylist, here.
Conan Doyle?

Yeah, to me, the accent kinda throws me out of the story at times, because it's just... it's weird.
Yes, another phrase I learned from fandom, what burnt mah brawl. It refers to different ways of interpreting a text: internal motivation, from the POV of the characters (Watson) -- or external motivation, from the POV of the author (Doyle). (Or maybe that should be intra- or meta- ? Anyway.) I want it to be Watsonian, "this is the way they really sound, they really really do. I would not be surprised if that culture had some sort of specific accent, and I wouldn't be surprised if I'd never heard it, which might make it sound weird to me. But the way they're portraying it, all the Travellers of his generation have an average country twang except for him, who just sounds weirdAnd if you're planning to watch the show... To try to spare you that thing where something gets hyped as the best thing since sliced bread and then fails to live up to ( ... )
