Word just came back from Sallie Mae...APPROVED!!!!!!!!

I'M GOING BACK TO COLLEGE THIS OCTOBER!!!!!!

1) its only 3/4 time (12 credits per quarter)...so I should be able to fit it in around work.
   (at least at first!)

2) its in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics!

For those of you who have known me for years...my initial foyay into college was in the year of 1990...in the field of Mechanical Engineering.  A choice I decided to marry with my love of puzzles & trickery and turn into a career in special effects...think monsters & aliens in things like Star Wars & the Freddy Krueger movies...physical/mechanical effects.

My first choice had been Journalism, however, my mother (back then refered to as Mommy Dearest) refused to sign any paperwork unless I put down a career with a "Real Future."  (hmm...Connie Chung, Barbara Walters...no...journalism doesn't have a future!)

Once the paperwork was filed...'Mommy Dearest' was told by the government how much she'd have to cough up...and told me in no uncertain terms to take a flying leap.  (her language she used was much more vulgar...)

Eventually, the financial burden that placed on me was a larger concern on the day to day than my grades....and well...I discovered at a much changed sci fi convention (MiniCon) that most effects were going digital.  So...I left college, and tried to break into the field by going through AutoCAD lessons (on the job)...After all...the sequences in Beauty & the Beast & Aladdin were done with AutoCAD 3D wiremodeling.

Again,  reality reared its ugly head...and I bent my nose to the grindstone to pay off my debts...while keeping my eye at the sky.

This past July...coincidence & opportunity came together at CONvergence.  A chance piece of information (that most hollywood effects of a non-physical nature are moving to a software program called MAIA(sp?), and my good timing to meet up with a local college that teaches coursework in that very program (hands on no less!)...I took a leap.

So now...EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER...the same person who told me to shove off when she was faced with having to pay a portion of my education, has now graciously co-signed my loans....and my application has finally gone through!

BOUNCY BOUNCY BOUNCY BOUNCY BOUNCY

WHAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
