Dirk smiles and sighs "Hello Lady Bayle." He grins and pats his leg for Jabbers.
"Lady Gloxinia," Gloxinia corrects with a smile, "Lady Bayle would most often refer to the Baroness." Despite her smile she seems worried about something and she is stone cold sober. "Would you like a cup of tea?"
Dirk looks worried as well. "Of course Lady Gloxinia, I would appreciate a cup of tea. IS there something wrong?" He heads your way and stands at attention.
"My brother," Gloxinia replies pouring tea into a cup. It's not a tiny porcelain affair. The tea service is ceramic and earthen and the mugs are large and sturdy. There are sandwiches and cookies on a tray. "I believe I am going to have to work to get him disowned. It is quite troubling to me." She gestures to a seat on the couch--a respectable distance from her. "You may call me Gloxinia or Gloxy."
Dirk nods "Gloxy, Don't do that. He's just going through a phase. I could take him out into shadow and let him purge it out of sight." He sits down that respectable distance.
"He doesn't understand!" She sips from her mug before adding, "Everyone is angry at me for my temper, Dirk. But Carruthers came to me reporting the woman was seen walking around without any clothes on in the house. If he hadn't had 'sex' with her yet, it wasn't for lack of trying."
Long distance to Dirk: Gloxinia gets you involved IC instead of OOC. :)
Dirk nods and stays as calm as he can. "Different people have different standards for comportment don't they?" He tries to use a calming voice. "I can understand a little. I wasn't born to such high ranking society. I would have a difficult time learning what is proper and not, myself."
"But you /are/ born to high ranking society, Dirk." Gloxinia asserts. "You may not know the proper way to act and behave but you can't take away the fact that you are...Deacon wants to piss away his chance to be Baron and I'm inclined to let him." She frowns and removes one of her thin black gloves. "Do you know why our older brother Vito isn't the baron?"
Dirk smiles a little strained smile, "No I don't know why?" He chuckles. "I was born on the docks of Minos to a woman's whose job is one I won't discuss now. Outside of the Baron issue, do you care about Deacon at all?"
"Of course I care about him, but if I'm going to be required to marry for politics and not love--it's his responsibility as baron to ensure an heir that will continue his line. I don't care who he takes as a mistress or how many of them he takes, I've been living with that all my life with my father and brothers, but I will have them remember to keep it out of /this/ house. I had that exact fight with my own father, Dirk and believe me he got his women out of here."
Dirk sighs, exhales and runs his fingers through his hair. "Now, I suppose that I should be glad that I don't have any women at all." He sips his tea. "If you disown him you'll take away any power you have to influence him.
Gloxinia smiles softly, "I can't disown him," she drinks more of the tea. "I have discussed it with Uncle Gentian who is father's full brother and who could come back and make a case for the Barony. And, I will do that if he doesn't stop acting like his only interest is booze and sex. Dirk, I’m an unmarried lady involved in a political match. It sullies my name and reputation if my brother is having orgies here and he has invited women back to his room. I don't care who they are or what they need. He has a reputation. If he can't keep it out of the house and he can't keep his goals toward marriage political minded then he needs to remove himself from the succession and do whatever makes him happy."
Dirk chuckles. "I don't think that's going to happen." Dirk has the common sense to blush a little. "I'll make sure he keeps his *activities* out of this house though even if I have to strand him in shadow to make the point."
Gloxinia says, "He needs to realize that any marriage offer needs to be in the best interest in the house and produce a viable heir to the Barony." She leans forward to pour more tea into her cup. "Once he's been married two or three times and has any number of heirs, he can do as father did and marry on whim and impulse. Is he going to elope with this pirate?"
Dirk nods "Well? I can't say a word against pirates. You do know my family background right? Although I am not prime material for any title."
Gloxinia says, "You could ask for a patent to be Prince of Amber," she smiles. "Martin was put up for one but had to put the offer aside when his grandmother asked him to deny the offer."
Dirk looks confused and shows just how not born to high society he is. "What?"
Gloxinia shrugs, "It is off the topic. But the point is that you could, potentially go from no title to a Prince of Amber."
Dirk nods "That's assuming my father would acknowledge I am his. Not likely though." He chuckles. "I am not piratical and bad boy enough."
"Or one of your uncles would adopt you," Gloxinia smiles. "I believe that has happened in the past."
Dirk shrugs again "I have only met Prince Benedict. I highly doubt he would adopt me. Besides I have a question for you?"
Gloxinia nods and awaits the question with active interest.
Dirk says, "If the house weren't an issue would you marry?"
Gloxinia says, "No."
Dirk says, "Then don't do it."
"Dirk," Gloxinia smiles patiently. "I have to do it. I am a lady and I have always understood that eventually I would be called to do my duty to the house in one way or another. Because I do not love the Baron is not a reason to stay out of the relationship. I do like him as well as most men. I expect the same sacrifice from Deacon as Baron Bayle. Especially since he can keep his favorite mistresses on the side or visit as many whores as he likes."
Dirk looks at you and says "Is the world going to end if you delay?"
"No," Gloxinia says. "I don't have to get married tomorrow. Nor does Deacon, I only ask that he remember what is expected of Bayle."
Dirk says, "Are they going to be as much fun to play with as Jabbers is? And what would I owe you for a pup?"
"Just try to keep Deacon from getting too out of bounds in the city?" Gloxinia's fingers rub at the hound's head as she looks down at the large eyes with fondness and affection that is seldom given a human. "I know he's probably laughing that I'm auctioning him off and he doesn't understand that it's revenge. I love him, Dirk. He's my full brother. But if he acts like a whore, I'm going to treat him like one."
Dirk nods and takes something out of his pocket. "Want me to help?"
Gloxinia looks up at Dirk. "Help?" she asks.
Dirk throws a heavy bag of coin on the table. "Mystery bidder."
"We're trying to have the bids accepted by a neutral party," Gloxinia says. "But I am willing to pass your bid to that person 'anonymously', once we have settled on the auctioneer."
Dirk nods "I think that would be a good idea. Consider that a donation regardless of the outcome of the auction."
Gloxinia grins at Dirk, "That's reasonable, are you not going to put yourself up for auction?" She looks down at her lap and the hound. "I might actually be tempted to bid." A blush comes to her cheeks.
Dirk smiles a little. "Why would you do that?" He teases just softly. "Do you need revenge on me?" He asks "More tea?"
"Of course not," Gloxinia is still blushing, but reaches out for the pot to refill Dirk's mug of tea. "I suppose it wouldn't be a proper suggestion but these are difficult times in the lower city and as far as I know, whoever buys Deacon may take advantage of non-intimate services, yes? He does have other talents."
Dirk smiles "I know he does. He's my friend after all." He chuckles a little. "You know if you want my friendship you don't have to buy it."
Gloxinia laughs, "No?" She sips from her tea and looks down at the hound curled up at her feet. "I don't have many friends. Martin is my friend."
Dirk stands and holds out his hand, "Would you Gloxinia Bayle do me the honor of being my friend, through thick and thin and thick headed brothers?"
Gloxinia maintains a respectable distance but offers her hand as she rises, trying to avoid the canine at her feet. "It would be an honor, sir. But I do have to ask that you protect my reputation? I know a great deal about what goes on between men and women through observation and none through fact."
Dirk nods and takes your hand. "I wouldn't dare distress you or damage your reputation. I am not at all like your brother. Trust me." He rubs his thumb over your skin. If you need any help at all send a message to House Karm asking for me."
Gloxinia pulls her hand quickly away but nods. She looks embarrassed but says, "Do try if you can to keep my brother from trouble? I'm afraid that he will respond by acting out and ignoring the potential damage to his reputation. I'll send to Karm when Hyacinth has her pups so you can inspect them." She smiles, "I cannot say for sure if they are Jabbers Juniors, but he is king stud around here.." she mumbles. "After Deacon."
Gloxinia says, "You could always try that," she curtseys and gives instructions for the tea service to be carried away to a servant. "Good day, Dirk."
Dirk smiles and does his best polite bow. "Good day, be safe and don't eat the bears." He turns and leaves.
