my  students told me that they don't want to take the final. at least, people who currently have A's think they should be exempt from the final exam. i am seriously considering it. because i do not want to grade finals

think like a utilitarian here. how many students have A's? if the number of students with A's is enough to justify your not giving them exams (like, say, it's half the class or more) and you feel that utility would be maximized by your only having to grade exams from half of the class, then do that. oh god listen to me i sound like a philosopher THIS IS REALLY BAD

utilitarianism is no better or worse than anything else. there is no objective way to measure utility or benefit.
