The Mummy for
shifty-gardener for the Daily December Meme (
prompt list)
THE MUMMY
The Mummy is a truly excellent movie, as many of you undoubtedly know. I've probably actively watched it twenty times, and been around while it was being played many more times than that, both out of pure love and the fact that
shifty-gardener is obsessed with it. Once we watched it in French and noted how the Arabic was different in that version than the Arabic in the English. This is the level of watching we reached.
THE STORY
The Mummy is the story of an archaeological dig gone wrong, where archaeologists accidentally read the Book of the Dead and awaken ancient Egyptian priest Imhotep. Imhotep comes back to life as a sexy mummy and tries to bring back his true love Ankhesenamun.
The movie is all very feel-good and action-packed, and when you think about it, the main plot is Imhotep being terrorized by dumb archaeologists. He's just trying to reunite with his lady love but we root for the archaeologists anyway! (We shall now mention the stereotyping that goes on in this film. It is rampant.)
Anyway, the characters in this film are very funny and hapless. George of the Jungle features as the main heart throb/foolish adventurer:
And Rachel Weisz, who is super cute and a great actress! I remember holding a now-embarrassing drunk conversation with my friend's mom a couple years back about how I'd marry RW for her beauty alone! Anyway, in this film she taught us to be true to yourself, be proud of who you are.
The brother in the movie is arguably the best part, but really every character is entertaining.
Bonus side-character shout out: My friends and I cheered very loudly in the theater when this babe (Oded Fehr!) came on screen.
This movie has it all!
Romance!
Action/Adventure!
And of course there are mummies!
FINAL WORDS
There are many one-word cries that stick with you after watching this movie. Also, swarming scarab beetles that make your skin crawl. Also, the Rock features as the Scorpion King in a sequel. But know that, should you watch The Scorpion King, you will be wasting your time. This is just my own humble opinion, but that was a terrible movie. I learned this the hard way and I would not wish such disappointment upon anyone.
In summation: I now want to go watch The Mummy, and I highly recommend you do the same!
