My dearest hope is that I'll have forgotten that community exists by the time I post my Big Bang (hey, it's a month from now, it could happen), because otherwise I know I'm going to go scrolling through the posts on my story and it will probably depress me to the point that I never want to write

I'll help you. Don't go, don't go, don't go. One of my other flisties is bleaching her brain to forget what she saw there. So many of my flisties have been skewered by that site it's not even funny. Of course it's not funny at all, but these people on that site just seem to take perverse pleasure in shooting other people's hard work down, anonymously of course, just because they can. Two of my flisties were so discouraged by what they read about their work there that they almost quit writing. It's for fun isn't it? Don't let them ruin it for you. Just stay away. There. After your big bang comes out and many, many people love it I'll be back to give you more encouragement to stay the hell away from that cesspool.

Yup… they did me there recently and some kind anon sent me a link to it. Ouch. One of my flisties tells me I’ve popped up on there several times, but that it seems to be one particularly nasty troll who is doing it. Oh well - guess you have to be philosophical about it… I try to be. Can’t please all of the people all of the time, and God knows I have my own likes and dislikes when it comes to fanfic. I got a lot of sensible advice when I posted about it on my LJ, not least of which was that anonymity does give people the freedom to troll out personal grudges, and that the goodwill and positive comments about my fanfic far outweighs the bad… in fact, a lot of people were defending my writing over there, which was really gratifying. But yes: probably wiser not to go and look!

I haven't really scrolled through the rest of the comments, so I don't know if I've been on there before (I suspect not, just because I'm not really a BNF, you know?). The problem is, now I know it exists, and I'm a glutton for punishment; I shouldn't look, but I probably will.

Someone had PMd me ages ago to say I had turned up on a post listing - wait for it - fangirls who are hot. So I had heard of the place. TBH I was amazed to show up there - I'm not what I would consider a BNF! Maybe it means I've arrived… :-O
