I met someone from the Internet for the first time last night!

Last night, I met Jane at Kuan Yin Teahouse and had a super time. What's especially awesome is the fact that, aside from my husband, whose online personal ad I answered, I've never really met anyone from the Internet before. Granted, I've seen people IRL who are also prolific posters on the 'net. But these are people I basically already knew. But Jane is someone who has already had quite a significant net presence for years, becoming well-known in various Usenet groups.

I was originally supposed to meet with rubylou, and if Jane also happened to be available, I'd meet her too. Rubylou had an emergency come up, so I met Jane instead. At first, I got a little nervous, since I had kept in touch more with Rubylou than Jane. But I had such a great time! It was especially fun discussing people I had seen on the Internet for years, but had never met before (she had). "Have you ever met [insert name here]? What's she like?" We definitely plan to get together again.

You know, I hope I eventually develop such a net presence that people will be sitting in a tea house like we were, and asking each other, "Have you ever met Gloria? What's she like?"
