Does anyone care?
Apparently so. It was on the covers of all the magazines and newspapers in the city for the last 2 days. Apparently he's more important than people donating hundreds or thousands or millions of dollars to charity. Apparently some two-bit pop-star's sexuality matters more than earthquakes or famine or people dying.
Let us take a minute to reflect on the media, as I remind myself why it is that I do not watch TV, do not read newspapers, and do not keep up to date with the world's "drama" (ie: stupidity).
If this is the best they can shell out, then that's pathetic.
Here are my questions for the world
1) Why is it controversial that a male pop star is gay?
2) Why does it matter that a washed-out-performer is gay?
3) Why did THIS particular story have to go on the front of newspapers?
4) Is there something particularly controversial about being gay in general? How is this really any different than hair colour? (Is it controversial when a popstar dyes their hair? I suppose so...)
5) Aren't we just feeding Lance Bass's career & profit by having his name show up everywhere in the world?
If you ask me, this just exemplifies the world media's marketing tactics and attempts at control of things. It shows the shallow/superficial quality that media contains. It shows that people don't think anymore. The fact that THIS was supposedly "controversial" or remotely even interesting is laughable. The only thing I found out of all of this was that I was even MORE disappointed with media than when I gave it up 4-5 years ago.
Sexuality is a personal private matter, however, since he is a popstar and has sold his identity and personality and body to the industry, I guess this sort of information is not a big deal if it gets released... However supposedly it is blown out of proportion into being a "big deal".
I just don't understand it. Wasn't he obviously gay? I mean, come on. N'Sync, BSB, isn't it guaranteed that some of those guys are sleeping with each other or other men? Who cares anyway? Where's the controversy? Their music still sucks.
... I just don't see what the big deal is about an obviously gay washed-out popstar being reported as being gay. It seems rather absurd to me.
