a place to stay
ki bum x ee teuk. pg-13 for swearing. pretty much au. i might make this into a series of "if super junior never happened..." stories, so it would be cool if you guys could give me pairings and prompts to continue this! the weirder the better >>''
it was the middle of may and it was cold, too cold. the wind was howling and there was a chance of really bad weather. the slamming of a door and a rushed fist pounding against it were the only noises that can be heard over the harsh wind. thunder cracked loudly and jung su fell to his knees, goosebumps forming over his thin arms. he hadn't been allowed to grab his things before he was thrown outside, so there he sat in a too-big-for-him tank top and thin cotton sweatpants- it wasn't that he was heartbroken, because he wasn't, really. it just would've been nice to be allowed to at least have his hoodie and wallet or even his cellphone...
"you'll never change! you're a fucking asshole!" came the screaming voice from inside the apartment and he turned over so he was sitting in front of the door, pouting out his bottom lip and bringing his arms inside of his tanktop, hoping to bring in some kind of warmth.
it hadn't exactly been the best of relationships. she was too young and all she wanted was for him to buy her things- and pay attention to her even when he was trying to work. it was stressful. all the nitpicking and whining. sure, she was a good cook, but she wasn't worth it anymore. he had tried to break it to her gently, but before he could get the words out silverware was being thrown at him and it was a whirlwind that shoved him out of the apartment.
"she throw you out?" rasped a voice to the left and jung su turned his head in that direction, eyebrow lifted. it was a younger man, at least it seemed. he had strong features and a crooked smile, a hood over his black mop of hair and a pair of jeans covering his lower body. he tapped his cigarette against the railing and watched the ashes fall, swept away by the wind. "i was waiting for that to happen."
jung su made a face, letting his head hit back against the door, earning another scream from the disgruntled woman behind the door. he let out a pained laugh, leaning his head back up and looking over toward the younger man. "why didn't you tell me? she didn't even give me my wallet so i could take the bus home."
"no one ever listens when you tell them things so it's always fun to watch when they fail."
"do you have a name?"
"it's cold, you should probably find somewhere to stay." the secretive man mumbled, putting out his cigarette on the railing before walking inside of his own apartment, shutting the door just as the rain started to fall. jung su wondered how hard the mysterious guy was laughing now. this was more than failing, this was falling into a black hole of nothingness.
a week later and a brand new man, park jung su stepped inside of the coffee shop on his way to the office, he had been promoted to assistant manager and he felt amazing even though he did have a slight cough from sitting out in the rain for a few hours. he fixed his tie and bowed to another as they walked out of the shop, opening the door for him to come in. jung su smiled and walked over to a small table in the corner, slowly sliding over and taking a seat, just as another sat across from him. he was a bit baffled at this, but continued to smile politely anyway, until he found who it was sitting across from him. a beanie over a mop of messy hair, sturdy facial features and a crooked smile.
"what are you doing here? get away from my table!" he hissed, his voice low, grabbing the paper on the table before the other had a chance to get it, the crooked smile still stuck on his features. jung su ignored it, awkwardly opening up the paper in a frustrating manner, almost tearing some of the pages in half.
"did she give you back your stuff?"
"are you stalking me? who are you!?" jung su's voice was rushed, he was angry. the boy had left him outside to rot, for christ's sake! he gripped the paper tightly, clearing his throat in an effort to get the waitress to take his order so he could get the hell out of there.
"kim ki bum- and no i'm not stalking you, this is the only coffee place in town. don't flatter yourself."
that little...
jung su folded down his paper and glared at the smiling eyes, about to open his mouth to say something before he was interruptted by the waitress. kim ki bum's crooked smile never left as he got up quietly and moved out of the coffee shop... without even buying a cup of coffee.
after work jung su found himself in a bar with a couple of co-workers, which ended up just being him with his tie loosened from around his neck, jacket on the back of his chair as he sat with his beer of choice in hand, taking a careful swallow before lowering the bottle down to the table and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. there was the sound of footsteps behind him over the quiet chatter in the tables around him and he decided that it would have to be one of his friends coming back to get something- a cell phone maybe? jacket?
"kim ki bum!?" he blurted as the other sat across from him in the booth, that same crooked smile and his eyes crinkling slightly. he stared him down through half lidded eyes, head tilted down slightly. ki bum only laughed and pulled out his cigarette pack.
"are you a loner? drinking by yourself..." ki bum made a slight clicking noise with his tongue, the smile fading as he put the cigarette between pursed lips, lighting it and placing the lighter and his package of cigarettes on the table.
"why do you keep following me?! i'm not gay." jung su stated blandly and ki bum laughed, more of a quiet chuckle, as he blew smoke out from his lungs.
"put that out, it's bad for you."
"what are you? my mother?" ki bum laughed again, tapping his cigarette against the ash tray as jung su took a long drink, letting the alcohol burn his throat.
"put that down, it's bad for you."
jung su wasn't nearly drunk enough when he felt ki bum's lips press against his own as they stood in front of the door so he fought it, pushing at the younger man's chest and trying to duck his head away from the assault. he knew something wasn't right with the boy, he'd been following him around and asking him too many questions and goddamn he could kiss. he could feel the blush creeping up from his neck to his cheeks, finally pushing himself back from the younger boy.
"the fuck?" he spat out as ki bum gently pushed the door open to his own apartment.
"you followed me home."
maybe he was drunk enough.

two months. two months without the crooked smile and the smart remarks, jung su thinks he just might go crazy. he's checked all of the places kim ki bum found him before, doubling his caffine intake in the local coffee shop and poking his head in the door to the bar- just to make sure he isn't there, just to make sure that he was ever there at all. he even went so far as to venture out to the fated apartment building, only to find an eviction notice on ki bum's door. it's only then that jung su starts to question his sanity, standing out on his own balcony in striped pajama pants and a black tank top over his lean frame. the wind blows around his face frantically, eyes soft and calm as he brings his coffee mug to his lips. ki bum had changed him without even opening his mouth, just the smiling eyes and the comfort of being there- the comfort of seeing him around.
"he was there," he breathes out quietly, looking up toward the sky.
"who?"
jung su's eyes are wide as he turns slowly, dropping his coffee mug onto the ground with a loud thud, the contents draining onto the wooden floorboards, going to say something, but only being able to gape in awe, swallowing hard.
"i didn't think you wanted to see me. you never gave me your name and you aparently aren't gay but i've seen you sneaking around where i hang out so i wanted to see if i was wrong."
"how did you-"
"followed you home."
"what happened to your-"
"living in my car."
"park jung su."
"i like that."
"i like you." jung su mutters, stumbling forward clumsily and pushing the beanie off of ki bum's head, weaving his fingers through thick black hair and kissing the crooked smile, eyes closing slowly as arms slide around his waist. tilting his head away from the kiss, he smiles carefully, licking over his bottom lip.
"it's cold out, you should probably find somewhere to stay."
ki bum laughs, not a chuckle but the real thing, eyes smiling as he rests his forehead against jung su's own.
"found it."
