Blog Action Day: On Poverty

Oct 15, 2008 21:23

It's that time of year again - Blog action day, and the theme is poverty.

When I was in Indonesia as a child there were beggars, some of them quite young, who had removed their own limbs to gain more sympathy for there simply wasn't enough money for all the beggars and healthy ones were second priority. I haven't seen poverty like that since, although with the population growth I'm sure it's gotten a lot worse in a lot of places.

I think poverty is something I don't feel confidently informed enough to blog about. I can feel the economic despair in places like Cooma, NSW, when in reality most people would rather live there then where they are now.

If everyone who read one of these blogs DONATED SOME MONEY and posted their own blog calling for others to do the same then imagine the change we could make! I'm in! Everyone with a computer is in the top 10% of the worlds richest people so we can afford it.

I'm sure many people have much better things to say about the issue, check out blogactionday.org
