I stuck around after we closed the box office tonight to watch some of the Beatles show - most of it actually. Kat and Cenee were both on the schedule so I had very little to do once we opened the windows.
During the first act I stood up in the balcony and watched from a distance. From where I stood, the guys in Rain looked a lot like the Beatles and their sound was uncanny. It's a a bit more of a production than I expected. There were three screens, one on each side of the stage and one behind the drum platform, with video images projected on them. Archival footage was combined with live video of the audience and the band members for the early Beatles songs from the Ed Sullivan Show and Shea Stadium. They had multiple costume changes and ended the act in the Sgt. Pepper era.
I ran into Tonjia and Josh in the lobby and after chatting a bit they talked me into staying. Sitting on the main floor relatively near the stage ruined the illusion that any of the guys looked like their Beatle counterparts except Lennon. They still sounded great and didn't miss a note (they've also been doing this for decades so it should come as no surprise). If you have a chance to see Rain live, you should take it. It's probably not worth the $50 price tag per ticket but if it's free, definitely seize the chance. And also, I'm planning to work an angle to see if it might be free in your neighborhood based on my connections.
Tomorrow is an office day then Seth Meyers in the evening with Eric and Angela and theoretically Jacquelynn. Josh and Tonjia are going to that show as well and we decided we would have dinner at Citrus Thai together (with Eric and Angela) after work.
