Packet Pick-up Day

Jul 11, 2012 23:45

Time keeps on ticking toward our inevitable 200 mile ride on Saturday. We all got one step closer to it during the first packet pick-up day today (advanced pick-up continues through Friday at REI). Justin was there at 11am, when Cascade opened for business, and he had to wait in line. It was empty when I went at 2:30 and almost empty when Eric went at 6. The moral in all this? Don't be an early adopter.

At the Cascade merch booth, I picked up cycling caps for all of us. This will be the full triumvirate's first piece of matching gear ever. Eric and I have a couple matching jerseys. Justin and I have some same-branded shorts. Otherwise there's nothing to visually make us a team. Until now. After not waiting at all for my packet, I did get stuck in a long line to purchase a proper sized spare tube and a patch kit with my special 20% discount coupon. Maybe it was worth it?

After work, Eric and I went to Genki Sushi to grab a bite. Remember what a steal their prices used to be? And the convenience of having sushi pass before your eyes, requiring nothing more than taking the plate from the conveyor belt? And how they had three or four derivations of spicy tuna? Yeah, well they raised the prices. And they upscaled the choices a bit, while also downsizing the selection. The number of things you used to be able to order seem to have been cut in half, the prices raised by 75%. It's still convenient and tasty and relatively affordable. But it's no longer cheap. Another heavy *sigh*.

Went to the gym tonight and for the first time ever, used the sauna and the shower there. Terri and I declared we could cut back even further on our water bill by showering at the gym. I did it. She forgot our resolution. It was much less grungy than I'd made it out to be in my head. And they provide you with soap! But you have to take your own towel to the Lake City location. Still, I look forward to saving some money. And maybe going in the mornings some days, before work. Hah.

Incidentally, this is day 193 of the year. And I've flossed and posted an entry every one of those days so far. Suck on THAT, Halph Asian! I win! Good luck trumping this ace. Or bower/bauer (apparently from Bauer, German for farmer).
