It seems Google Docs is now integrated with Livejournal, so I thought I would test it out. I don't think it will allow me to make this a friends-only post though. I wonder.
I saw Prince Caspian this weekend... and I wasn't too pleased with it. They turned Peter into a blundering idiot. They made up story lines that never happened just to make him look worse.
I'm listening to the audio book again just to check but throughout the whole movie I had that feeling of... this can't be right....
It's a good movie... and entertaining, for sure.... but why must they make up a new story when the original is pretty good already?
I was expecting something more faithful to the book, since the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was pretty faithful.... but... I guess it was ok.
Edit: OK... I'm still not done with the audio book but I'm pretty near the end. So I'm going to do a little outline of the story under a cut, because I'm very frustrated at the amount of changes done to it.
- The four children are pulled from the train station into Narnia (no fight scene before that!)
- They start exploring the place they're in and after a while they find the ruins of Cair Paravel (their old palace) and figure out what it is.
- They see a dwarf in danger and Susan shoots at the helmet of the man who is about to drown him.
- The two men jump out of the boat and swim for their lives
- Peter and Edmond swim to the boat and bring it to sore with the dwarf in it.
- The dwarf explains this place is thought to be haunted and that the two men thought the children were ghosts.
- The dwarf doubts the children so Edmond challenges him to a sword fight and after that, Susan and the dwarf have a bow and arrow competition. The children win both.
- He starts telling why he was there and about Caspian
- The story turns to Caspian in his youth
- Caspian's nurse is laid off after his uncles figures out she has been telling him tales about the old Narnia
- A professor is hired, he reveals to Caspian why his nurse had been fired
- He sets up a lesson of star gazing in the middle of the night and uses that time to tell Caspian more about old Narnia. He sets several lessons like this, and also tells Caspian about his uncle and how he usurped the throne.
- Caspian's aunt has the baby. The professor wakes Caspian in the middle of the night and he runs away to the forest.(no one seems to follow him)
- Caspian falls and bumps his head. He wakes up to the discussion of what should be done to him. (the horn hasn't been blown yet!)
- Presentaitons are made and a counsil is gathered.
- The centaurs say what is obvious, there must be war
- Caspian's professor reaches them and advices that the blown should be blown so that help would come.
- Before the horn is blown, they decide that they should send people to the old places of Narnia because the help might appear in one of them. A squirrel is sent to the Lamp and a dwarf is sent to Cair Paravel (the same dwarf who is telling the story and who never was taken into Myraz's castle.)
- Caspian blows the horn a little after they left
- Back to the children
- They start on their travel
- They reach the gorge and see that there is no way across it at that point.
- Lucy sees Aslan and tells them he wants them to go up a little farther. They can't see him and decide to go down towards Beruna's Bridge (which was not built during the time of this book!). Even though all think she might be right, Edmond is the only one who stands by her.
- As they're approaching the place, arrows zoom towards them and they run back the way they came. No one follows.
- At night near the gorge again, Aslan appears to Lucy again and tells her that she must wake the others and come. And if they don't come, she must come alone.
- Lucy convinces everyone, only Susan is sour about it. Lucy sees Aslan as clear as day but the others don't.
- She follows him and the other's follow her.
- They find a way down and across the river. Mid-river, Edmond starts seeing Aslan and a little later all of them can see him.
- Approaching Caspian's camp, the girls go another way with Aslan and the boys go with the dwarf into the camp.
- Aslan begins waking the tress and they dance and make a feast
- Caspian's army has already suffered a great loss in a battle that happened in the meanwhile (this battle was NOT inside the castle nor anywhere near it)
- The new arrivals watch hidden a war meeting that is happening. Another dwarf brought a Hag and a Werewolf into this meeting proposing that they call the White Witch. Caspian refuses emphatically. The White Witch is never called.
- A battle breaks between the traitors and Caspian and his people. Peter, Edmond and the dwarf join at Caspian's side. They win.
- Caspian tells Peter about the state of his army and Peter suggests to challenge Myraz to a one on one combat. (It's Peter's idea to win them some time and not Caspian's idea)
- Edmond takes the challenge to Myraz
- Myraz's counselors want him to take the challenge so they use reverse psychology on him making Myraz think they think he's a coward or weak.
- As the challenge is about to begin, trees approach.
- Peter sprains his wrist on the first half of the fight and his shield is tied to his arm so that he can hold it.
- At one point Myraz stumbles and falls backward, Peter waits for him to get up instead of attacking.
- Myraz's counselors are quick and shout Treachery! They say Peter stabbed Myraz while he was down. At this one of them stabs Myraz in fact.
- War breaks loose. The trees join in.
- Myraz's men get scared with trees and many try to fall back, but when they reach the river where there should be a bridge, it's not there anymore.
- Back to the girls and Aslan
- They're going about waking the trees.
- They reach the river and the river god begs to be released from its chains.
- Trees break down the bridge to release the river.
- Aslan goes into the Telmarine's city and makes nature grow, grass, flowers, plants take over the town. Most of the Telmarines run away.
- Aslan cures an old woman.
- Aslan, the girls the plants and the few Telmarines who didn't run away go to the battle field
- The battle is already won by Caspian's lot
- There's a big feast
- Later Aslan tell the Telmarines their story and offers to lead them back to an island on Earth
- An unknown man offers to go first and Aslan blesses him with good fortune.
- No one else wants to go because they are suspicious
- The children go to serve as an example
- The children are back at the train station going to school.
I'll come back when I'm done with the book to finish this outline.
