The treats that Diamond had enjoyed from her mysterious picnic basket only whetted her appetite for the splendid feast that the elves had prepared. A hobbit will never scorn a meal, especially one so fabulous. Diamond tried everything that was offered, even Elladan's "roast troll," which did indeed taste remarkably like chicken (for in fact that was what it truly was). For most of the meal, she was content to listen to the cheery conversations going on around the table. The few occasions that she had met elves before had always been rather formal affairs, causing her to form the opinion that elves were, as a rule, serious, quiet, and mysterious. Sharing a meal with Arwen, her family and the others was making Diamond realize how little she truly knew about elves. They were as happy and friendly as a gathering of hobbits, and their warm companionship went far to take the edge off of her homesickness. Diamond had noticed that Aragorn was not with them, but chose not to comment on it, rightfully sensing that this was none of her business.
There was one question that was on her mind though, and after she had eaten her fill, she asked, "Has anyone here ever had dealings with a dragon?"
