The full first episode is up at tv.yahoo.com, and I couldn't help it. I had to watch it. Clearly, a lot of other people felt the same way, because the stream got really clogged for a while there, but I finally saw the whole thing. My reactions behind the cut.
It was so very wonderful to have this show back!
What a bold move to jump 8 months into the future. That's a whole lot of story they missed, and a whole lot of stuff to catch up with.
Er, I guess Tim Riggins wasn't a senior last year, as it so clearly seemed he was? And I guess the only senior last year was Jason Street? Okay. Also, how did Saracen lose his Captain status? He still seems to be QB1, which is automatic captain, no? I dunno.
Oh, Julie. It is decidedly NOT a bad thing to wind up with you and Matt growing into your parents. Although, you are only 16, so you've got a whole lotta stupid moves ahead of you. I just wish they didn't hurt Matty. :(
But, what I have to talk about is Tyra and Landry. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?! Tyra is more responsible than that! LANDRY FOR FUCK'S SAKE IS WAAAAAAYYYYY more responsible than that!!!! His dad is a FUCKING COP! That choice pisses me off so much, because it's out-of-character and off-kilter with the rest of the show. It takes it to a step beyond the visceral reality the show has always maintained. Seeing Tyra and Landry deal with the real-world consequences of that would have been enough, without that stupid-ass decision that I don't believe for a minute either of them would have made. I'm very disappointed, SHOW. *sigh*
I really hope that storyline doesn't wind up overwhelming or otherwise fucking up the balance of the show. It just doesn't fit, and all the rest of it was exactly perfect. Welcome back, FNL.
Let's hope a whole bunch of people discovered the show over the summer.
