Music Weekly: Week 13: King Creosote and Jon Hopkins

Apr 08, 2011 14:08

It's near the end of week 14 - I'm getting slightly behind here... Well, last week's choice was something suggested to me by Howard, the owner of the record shop. It's a collaboration between folky King Creosote and ambient musician (and university) Jon Hopkins. It has amongst the most beautiful songs I've heard all year, in particular "Your young voice," though some of the other songs do sound like both musical and lyrical stream of consciousness that doesn't always work so well. Perhaps that's just and unkind way of describing improvisation. I don't know. I'm not sure that this will be one I listen to a whole lot more, but a couple of tracks may make it on to the best of the year list.

Incidently, I chatted to Howard about the fact that I'd be away the next couple of weeks because of a trip to Japan. Apparently he's never been, but would like to. I resisted the temptation to make a joke about turning japanese (he was the drummer in the Vapours).
