We went to the hospital yesterday. The doctor Ya hates traveled to the States to be with his dad, who is very sick. So she just did the blood tests and ultrasounds. Last time, after we left, I told her that I had stopped going in with her for the blood tests because I got sick seeing them poke her so many times. So this time she insisted I come in with her, little witch. But luckily the good nurse did it, first try. The professor in charge of the ultrasounds said she had a small cyst on the left side of her neck, when asked how large she said two centimeters. Two centimeters is big. ? Ya's doctor seemed most concerned about a half centimeter cyst where her biopsies were performed. I don't think she was going to mention it, but the resident asked her if that was what she was most concerned about and she said yes, and then glanced in my direction. They hadn't mentioned there being a cyst there. She told me to call in three weeks, when she and the professor would be finished comparing these results with previous ones, to hear the lowdown. All the blood tests came out good, including those related to bones. Ya has had pain in her joints and particularly pain in her left knee lately, so I mentioned it as a concern. Her joints aren't bothering her now, though.
Then I had a little time to recover before I had to start dealing with the slumber party Ya had last night. When she became Bat Mitzva on her last birthday she didn't want to do anything, so this was her Bat Mitzva party. Her aunts did the cooking and preparing for the most part. They had the party in the empty apartment that her aunt uses to house guests. I took her around to pick up five girls from the neighborhood of the school. Three more girls from the village came, three girls from her previous school, and one girl who switched from her present school to somewhere else. Thirteen girls all together. What a lot of noise. Ya called from my cell phone about an hour after I left her there. The video machine she had borrowed from her sister wasn't working with her aunt's television and her uncle couldn't fix it although it appeared he tried everything. Ya cried and said she was coming home, that she couldn't have the party now because she had planned it around watching videos. She was inconsolable. I said all the motherly things to say--people didn't always have videos and they still enjoyed each other's company, her friends came to celebrate with her, not to watch videos, blahblahblah. She wouldn't listen to any of it. Finally I asked to talk to one of her friends. I asked the friend to ask all the girls if they would like me to take them home, or if they wanted to stay even without videos. She said she already asked, and everyone was fine with no videos and wanted to stay. She said just hang up on Ya, she'll be okay. So I talked to Ya again, and told her that the party wasn't ruined unless she ruined it with her attitude. Sigh. In the end it was fine. She called to ask me something a couple of hours later, and had already forgotten that she had been sad.
We had really heavy hail last night. When I went out an hour after it had fallen, there were still big pieces piled up. The size of large corn kernels, some even the size of hominy kernels. It was lucky the kids were sleeping heavily, I was afraid the skylight would break, it was pounding so hard.
I didn't sleep much, worrying about the girls at the party. Every time I started to doze off I would hear noise, and expect a phone call saying they needed help with something. Every time I got up I would look over at the apartment to see what was up. Of course I just saw the building looking like it always does. This morning they have all gone off to school. Ya, Ha, and Shi, are planning to do some hanging out later on.
