Mike O’Malley has currently got a recurring gig on Glee but it looks like the actor might soon be adding a regular series gig to his plate, too. Deadline.com reports that the actor is set to play the lead in a new comedy from FOX.
The series is a single-camera comedy called FAMILY ALBUM, written by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and directed by Shawn Levy. The show centers on Dave (played by O’Malley), who is a passionate, overly enthusiastic former jock. After going through a bad breakthrough experience on a family vacation, Dave returns home with a renewed conviction to “bond the crap out of his family.”
Reportedly O’Malley had his choice of comedy or drama gigs this pilot season, fielding offers not only for Family Album but also NBC’s drama Grimm. The actor ultimately went with the half-hour project and the deal currently calls for O’Malley to continue his recurring role on Glee as Kurt’s sensitive single dad, Burt Hummel.
O’Malley has also been busy behind the camera as well, writing this past weekend’s episode of the Showtime drama Shameless as well as the indie feature Certainty, which now in post-production. He also currently co-stars in Fox Searchlight’s Cedar Rapids.
