So yesterday was the big State Fair Day.
We got there late since I had to stop by Target and get my anti-cranky and anti-space-cadet medicine. I got to Target by 8:15 only to find out that the pharmacy didn't open til 9:00.
We finally got on our way and got to the fair by 11:00.
After doing the wristband thing and the cotton candy thing.
We did the International Square thing but were disappointed that Seville Sandwiches were gone.
Then in to the Agriculture building
where the non-cotton candy eaters had ice cream and we all had apples and I had a glass of really yummy rhubarb wine. Semi-sweet with a really pretty color and a strong rhubarb after taste. I thought it was also getting close to the "sweet" line. That's not a problem for me though.)
Then to the space tower. Followed by picking up my Corn Fritters.
Good news and bad news on that one,
sprinklekit finally tried and likes corn fritters. She took some, but not enough to justify getting another whole portion.
We stopped for fries and a hamburger for Sprinklekit while the middles ate pizza and Squishy decided that he didn't like us anymore because we put salt on the fries.
He refused to have anything to do with us.
Once we were friends again, we headed into the Kidway where we met up with Erik, his dad, and A1 and
moneygod . We went on a fun ride on the tilt-a-whirl on which I had been excitedly about to ride with Squishy until his mother showed up and he chose her over me.
We all joined Reggiemom and
petsnakereggie for the parade.
I cheered for everything. " Yay Gedney Pickle"
"Yay Art Car!" "
" Yay person dressed up as a mosquito!"
The lady in front of me liked my enthusiasm, my daughters refused to sit by me.
Then the other parents took the youngers off for rides while I helped Sprinklekit
and Reggiemom
hold down a bench in the shade.
The trip to the Little Farm hands thing required some Strawberries and Cream to sustain us on the way and some Cinni-Smith's Rolls to make us extra happy. I cheered while we were watching them make the rolls. My children are learning to ignore this kind of behavior.
We had Sky Glider Fun
and saw the Coke Bottle Sculptures
. Erik and his dad went home and we kept A1 with us.
Then it was time to eat.
For Supper we had
Chicken Bites (Blackened Chicken with a horseradish Sauce)
Bull Bites (Blackened Beef with a horseradish sauce)
Leprechaun Legs (Breaded, deep fried Green beans with a Chipoltle ranch sauce)
Garlic Fries (Fries with TONS of fresh Garlic)
Ribbon Fries ((a potato that has been shoved through a special machine so that it becomes one long curly strip about 2 inches wide with the thinness of a potato Chip. The whole mass is then deep fried.
Onion rings (Yummy, but came out as more of an onion Mass. We found one ring intact and it was only an inch in diameter.)
Puff Daddy (Asian Sausage wrapped in Puff Pastry and served with peanut sauce)
Falafel on a stick (I ate petsnakereggie's leftovers. I love falafel.
Waffle fries (Breezy wanted these. They were seasoned and nice)
I followed this up with a MN wine sampler. 3 - 2.5 oz. cups of wine with a handy holder. This way I could have some more of the semi-sweet Rhubarb wine and try some others as well. I stayed in the fruit category. I decided to ry the local plum wine because desserts are good and the dry Rhubarb as well because rhubarb is good.
The plum wine was tasty and sweet and tasted like plum wine. The dry rhubarb was very tart as you would expect from something made of rhubarb. I thought it had a pleasant aftertaste but it wasn't very rhubarb-y at all.
Then there was Skyride fun and some time in the Midway.
I had the three middles with me and we met their respective parents (Erik had come back with April) at the Giant Slide. Of course, it was raining by then and they closed the slide. We decided that walking home in the rain would make for some very cranky boys and that since the Park & Ride is across the street from my house that there would be fewer minutes in the rain for the boys.
It sounded like a good idea at the time.
So, I hung out with Erik and his wife April and all the kids. We got Roasted Corn for those who wanted it . It was Squishy's second ear which he demolished as fast as the other one. I am very pleased that Minireggie now like corn on the cob. He complained at my house a few weeks before that it was too hard to eat. He figured it out though and announced that he liked it. If he had made this announcement at home previously, I don't know.
By the time we finished the corn and hit the restrooms, the rain had stopped, the slide guys got the squeegees out and the Giant Slide opened. Yay!
We had a great time. Squishy and I went down it twice and then headed over to a nearby carousel for a ride while Minireggie, Breezy and A1 went down the slide a third time under the watchful eyes of Erik and April.
We all had ice cream on the way out. Breezy pointed out that Moneygod had said that Minireggie couldn't have anymore ice cream that day. I pointed out , as this whole taking the boys overnight thing started feeling less good,, that Moneygod wasn't there now, was she..
I had a 1919 Float. I loved it.
The waiting for the park and ride bus was frustrating since I had only brought one chair and Minireggie got mad that I hadn't brought an extra one for him. I pointed out that I probably would have, but I hadn't expected him to be coming home with me. Breezy and Minireggie switched every 5 minutes until the bus got there.
The kids were falling asleep on the bus on the way home.
Getting the the 100 feet from the bus to the house was a bit of a challenge. The whining between the time the bus dropped us off and I got them into bed (only 10 minutes) had me feeling that the whole boys overnight thing was an awful idea.
However, when I Woke up at about 7:45 with the kids, I was grateful that I hadn't had to get up before 7:00am when Petsnakereggie normally brings the kids on Friday mornings.
We had a great time.
