This is an interesting thing I've realized... I don't know if it holds true for everyone, but it does for me:
Punctuation online - Punctuation replaces almost all clauses and words and gives the reader a specific impression every time when read online! Check it out:
Exclamation point = casual
Period = serious and thus lame (except when used in conjunction with the semicolon, where it adopts semicolon status)
Semicolon = scientific
1 Question mark = honest question
>1 = Casual question
>1 + ! = rhetorical question
ellipsis = usual semi serious statement if spoken
Let's try this out:

Let's be honest, no one is going to call up that guy and be like "oh crap man, sorry that you're feeling bad, you wanna talk?"

AHA! The ellipsis is the most effective way to convey general thought without being too melodramatic. See, I just used a period, so now I'm effed! What the hell am I supposed to do?!?!?!?! By the way, has anyone else put any thought into this? I've been thinking about it for a while... so, where are my honeys????
