Seeking Coordinator for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Student Involvement and Leadership at Washington University in St. Louis

Position Overview:
The Coordinator for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Student Involvement & Leadership is an advisor, advocate and resource to lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex students and allies. The coordinator is responsible for identifying the academic, intellectual, social, cultural, recreational, educational and political needs of LGBT students as well as those of student communities. The coordinator’s work focuses on student group leadership and collaboration with students and campus colleagues to address issues of difference, campus climate, culture and sensitivity.



Primary Responsibilities:
➢ Assist LGBT students to foster a strong sense of self, to strengthen individual communities, and to build alliances with other departments and communities.
➢ Advise student groups serving the LGBT community including but not limited to Pride Alliance and Safe Zones.
➢ Work with students and colleagues to plan and implement programs to, for and about the LGBT campus community. Specific programming responsibilities include functional areas such as outreach, campus and university relations, advising individual students and student organizations, and educating the campus community related to LGBT topics and issues of concern.
➢ Maintain tangible links and relationships with students and other departments through the design and distribution of newsletters, brochures, and other publications.
➢ Serve as a resource, advocate and representative to the University as requested on LGBT related topics and news.
➢ Develop and maintain a library of information, reference and source materials on LGBT related topics.
➢ Support, attend and participate in Campus Life functions, meetings and programs, and serve on various committees, including those activities taking place in the evening and on weekends.
➢ Assist in the interpretation and enforcement of University policies and procedures, especially those related to student organizations.
➢ Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Students/Director of Campus Life and the Coordinator for the Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program/Academic Coordinator in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Education and Experience:
➢ Master’s Degree in student affairs, higher education or related field.
➢ Demonstrated experience working with college students in a professional capacity.
➢ Demonstrated experience and knowledge of LGBT topics and concerns on a college campus.
➢ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
➢ Energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with students.
➢ Creativity, initiative, organizational skills, tolerance for ambiguity.
➢ Committed to working as a member of a team.
➢ Establishing and maintaining relationships with appropriate departments, entities, and off-campus resources.
➢ Knowledge of the LGBT community, issues faced, and cutting edge solutions and resolutions.
