For a city so close to the Ocean, Halifax sure missed the boat.
Yes, I made it through my first flight. A layover in Halifax is definitely as exciting as it sounds. We hit the town in fine style despite it being -15 without the windchill factor. It would appear as though every female is over weight, partial to sequins, clothing 10 sizes too small and a victim of bad tattoos. Every male is under 5'7" and partial to clothing 10 sizes too large. Two girls actually got thrown out of a bar for fighting. How de-classe. Anyway, - 15 and snowing like a Christmas special, Halifax was really no great shakes. Not to mention they don't subscribe to Sunday shopping. The only place open was a restaurant called the Bluenose where I went for brunch with my friend Amy. Eggs benny and a glass of Orange juice.
It took an hour to get to the airport from our hotel due to inclement weather... I was really worried about the ride in... our driver was all over the road. Anyway, we made it with moments to spare so we all hit up the Tim Horton's where I purchased their last Cinnamon Bun. Mmm Mmm good. We boarded on time , all 248 passengers. All my pre-departure inspections were done, all passengers were boarded and belted.... we get delayed for 2 hours because of a frozen water pipe. Maintenance was unable to thaw it out and we had to take off with no water. What does that mean? It means no water to flush the toilet, no water to wash your hands and no water for coffee or tea. Ew. The lav in first class had water for the entire flight though. However, we didn't let anyone in on that fact.
Upon arrival it became apparent that two old bags had expired passports. Cuba threatened to deny them entry but the Captain came out and gave the gate agent a stern talking to and eventually these two biddies were allowed in. Que'es ce que fuck? Who does that, who travels to a communist country with an expired passport and a notarized letter? Pffft.
Anyway, the inbound flight was Cuba - Montreal which meant that the entire passenger load was French speaking exclusively. Those frogs can be pretty demanding! I had a fun though and it was fun to say 'Ham or chicken' in French 224 times. "Jambon ou poulet?" The landing was so smooth that I wasn't even sure if we had landed yet. Hooray for lady captains!
During the flight I had the pleasure and the privelege of being invited to the flight deck twice. I got to sit in the flightdeck jumpseat while we flew over Myrtle Beach and Miami. It didn't even look like we were moving. It's funny though because the only other time I can remember being in the cockpit was with my ex-boyfriend on the way to the Bahamas (Pre 9-11) and we were flying over Miami then too! Miami must really stand out at 40 000 ft.
Anyway, my big plans for my 2hours in Veradero were shot to hell because of the delay in Halifax. I tried to get off the plane but the gate agents were hitting on me so much that I just retreated into the first class section where I ultimately lost sight of my cinnamon bun and the damn groomers STOLE IT! Ah well... I made it into Montreal which must be the Land of the Handsome Men... ooh ahhh lots of lovely men flying out of town on a sunny Monday morning.
I got home at 12pm, fell asleep until 4pm and then went to work at MAC Pro until 10 pm. I got drunk at MAC and ate lots of h'ors d'oeuvres. Mmm mmm. Last night was Valentine's.. I was treated to a lovely dinner and a lovely evening that ended at 12pm this afternoon... then I worked at MAC Pro again and got drunk again and ate MORE pumpkin pesto tortellini and pecan chicken and tomorrow is my day off and then Friday I am London bound. I have a lunch date on Sunday and then we are going to an FA Cup game!
So if you've read this far... well then I guess you've read this far. Way to go. I promise my stories will get much more interesting. I left a lot out of this one...
A la prochaine,
jambon ou poulet?
