The Early Bird Gets the ... Pics?

Jan 09, 2007 15:12

Well, I wasn't up that early, but considering I've not been able to get to sleep until at least 4am for the past week or so, and the fact that I've barely been able to get out of bed until just before noon, I was pretty impressed with being up at 9:30 today. All in practice for tomorrow when I have a doctor's appointment at 8:50. Joy, joy.

At least my endeavors were paid off. After about ten minutes of being up, fixing my coffee, enjoying it on the porch with a smoke in the 30 degree weather; it started snowing.

Granted, it's all pretty much gone now (at 3:15 as I write this), but it was a nice snow shower for the first snow of 2007.

I think this is my favorite of the bunch. Not sure why, other than it almost imparts a slightly claustrophobic sense. I like overhanging foliage and caves, and mountains that never let you see too far into the distance. Anyways, hope you like them. I spent an enjoyable hour, cropping, resizing, tweaking... you know, all that graphic artisty stuff I like to do. Not saying they're great by any stretch. Let me know at least which is your favorite.

I had hoped this one would have turned out a little better. I tried to emphasize the green, and thought that would in turn, emphasize the 'path' between them.

Standard shot from about the middle of the back porch.

A piece of driftwood by our mailbox.

An ornamental four-quarter cross (I really don't know what else to call it) that was placed by the front walk at Samhain time. It's been there since. This is also the pic that I did the most work on. Removed quite a number of items and covered them with either flat snow, or leaves and snow.

A shot of the front of the house. You can't really see the difference from the current UserPic, but the front porch was modified last year to extend from the driveway (with a concrete ramp) all the way to the far corner of the house where my room is.

This is part of the patio set Ma got to go in the aforementioned new addition to the front porch.

Here you can see all of the deck. Originally it started about where the potted lavender is on the left, and went down to just past the front door (you can see where the width difference is).

Another shot of the front, but with the cross from above.

Another recent addition (2005, maybe?). This is Ma's porch. All bedrooms have a door to the outside, with a smallish porch. Originally, there was no roof, and no stairs. Just down from the stairs is a frog pond (wet weather spring), that she's wanting Tuckey and I to do some more landscaping to for her Christmas present.

On the front porch looking toward the road. The chime is about three feet long and hangs from a weeping cherry tree.

Snow Faeries! ;^)

This is the wisteria growing the the stairs that go up to the upstairs living room. I didn't realize when I took this how I was framing the pic. I just kinda' lucked out, but I do like the way the lines work together there.

I'm thinking about either a) creating a Photo Bucket account, or Flickr, or some such, or b) simply creating my own gallery on my server. The purpose? To upload the original pics with no treatment done to them.

Anyways, hope you all enjoy our first snow of the year.
