feels strange to be back in a big church. suddenly every thing sounds very loud and overwhelming. very strange to sing in english. i keep finding myself humming and singing those spanish songs and thinking of stuff to say in spanish! wow i mustn't lose this drive, i must strive to dream in spanish also. anyway it feels like stuff have changed. location is different, i dont really like colorful lights, reminds me of disco. and even holy communion is in a high tech disposable capsule thing. well, 5 months of being in a tiny church and i've been simplified to a single instrument circle service sort of girl. well, we're all ultimately doing the same thing- sharing God's word in His presence. gotta get used to things!

i dont know why, but i suddenly feel very inspired to learn bahasa! the last time i did was 3rd lang in sec sch, but i dropped it after one year. i think i actually aced it but it was damn stressful to memorize all the compos for exams which were written by my dad. but it has suddenly hit me that i might not be all that eager to get my pink I/C after all. despite born and bred singaporean. queeeer.

to kick start, i downloaded some basic malay apps. it seems tougher than spanish though. i am so bad at languages. 22 years of listening to cantonese and hokkien and all i understand is sek fun and jia peng.

虾。

how do you pronounce this word? xia1? xia2?

after 22 years christine kindly reminded me that my pronunciation is the malaysian way (xia2). i was very amused to find bits of malaysian chinese in my speech cos i always laugh at malaysian accent. it sounds very cute. i realised it's because i only use this word when i want to eat prawn keropoks, and prawn keropoks is a very family affair.

五毛钱。
wu3 mao2 qian2? wu2 mao3 qian2?

新加玻。
xin1 jia1 bo1? xin1 jia3 bo1?

马来西亚。
ma3 lai2 xi1 ya4? ma3 lai2 xi3 ya3?

3 points if you can guess which is singaporean/malaysian. hurhur.
