Well damn.
I just saw Smokin' Aces. I know the year just got started, but that is the best I've seen thus far.
It was like the American cousin of Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I'm noticing the trend of all-star ensemble casts and Aces really pulled it off. Alicia Keyes and Common performed well as switch-overs and Jeremy Piven and Ryan Reynolds get massive points for enjoyable angst. Chris Pine is a Crackerjack prize of redneck hawtness that you can't help but love. And the music is definitely something to Google about.
That said, my movie-going impulse is revived! I went to the theater on Friday and plan on going on Tuesday. Move cinema, please.
The movie I saw on Friday was The Departed.
Forgive me Tony Leung! *sob*
Seriously though, now I can compare it to Infernal Affairs, the original Chinese version.
I must say, Departed was good. Nicholson and DiCaprio deserve many awards. Damon was good but he could have been better and that's entirely the writers' faults. His character lacked the complexity of the original; none of his pathos really translated. This confuses me since DiCaprio's portrayal of his character was similar to Leung's.
Whatever, I'm not mad about it anymore. Just...give a little credit next time, you know? Most people I talk to don't know its a remake. Considering that some of the lines were lifted directly from Affairs, I'd use a disclaimer!
And I just remembered that the totally butchered Kelly Chen's character (not literally!) and now I'm mad again! Pfft.
Oh! It's snowing! It has been for some time. Do a Snow Dance for me and I might get a snow day!
