Yunho then realized how much his friend had changed and how their roles had been reversed.

Chapter 25: New Beginning
The surprise of seeing Yunho standing at his doorsteps wasn’t as big as his surprise at Yunho’s attitude. To Jaejoong’s confusion; Yunho looked as if he was surprised to see Jaejoong. He launched himself at Jaejoong and hugged him as if he hadn’t seen him in years.
“Oh my God Jae, I missed you so much. Where have you been? I didn’t hear from you in like, four years”
Jaejoong was beyond confused. Despite his heartbeats’ reaction to the hug and Yunho’s touch, he felt awkward, just what was Yunho doing?
“Mmmm, Yunho?”
Yunho broke the hug and looked at Jaejoong with a huge smile.
“I tried calling you but everyone didn’t know where you were”
“Yunho, what are you talking about, I just saw you last mon…”
Jaejoong was cut off by Yunho. “And I was so worried about you and I didn’t know if I would ever see you again. What is that? Aren’t you inviting me in?”
Jaejoong blinked, then blinked again but then as awkward and weird as it seemed, he opened the door and let Yunho in.
“How have you been? You look different, wow, you grew up so much” Yunho exclaimed ruffling Jaejoong’s hair. Jaejoong ducked his head and then caught Yunho’s hand to stop him.
“Yunho!” He exclaimed. “Just what the hell are you doing?”
Yunho sighed and a soft yet sad one replaced his excited face.
“I… Truthfully, I didn’t visit you last month because you asked me not to, it wasn’t because I didn’t want either. Although you said that you didn’t want me to see you again, I just… I just couldn’t”
“Yeah…” Jaejoong scratched his head and avoided looking at Yunho’s eyes.
“Are those…” Yunho took one of the books on the table in his hands and flipped through its pages. “Are those for college?”
Jaejoong nodded. “Yeah”
Yunho’s eyes widened and his mouth formed a big happy smile.
“That’s great, wow, I’m really happy for you”
“Thanks” Jaejoong replied. “But Yunho, what were you trying to do just now?” Jaejoong continued with a confused glare.
“Truthfully…” Yunho took a deep breath. “Truthfully, I thought about us, me and you and thought that maybe we could just start fresh and new”
“Are you saying that…”
“What I’m saying is…” Yunho adjusted himself in his seat until he was bending slightly with his head in the direction of Jaejoong who was sitting on the opposite couch.
“Let’s forget the past and everything that happened. Maybe we should start a new, you and me. High school friends who met after four years. I’m working in a company and you’re studying for college. Just like that”
Jaejoong stared at Yunho in disbelief for a good minute. He tried to process Yunho’s word in his little brain but it was too surprising and shocking to even hear it.
“Wait wait wait” He shook his head lightly. “You mean you don’t mind my past? I mean, you can’t just forget that I was a pro, pros, prost…” Jaejoong couldn’t say the word; he was too ashamed to even think about it. A blush covered his cheeks and he lowered his head and bit his lips. “… That. I was that”
Yunho gave Jaejoong a soft smile. “All of us have our pasts, our flaws and wrong deeds. The things that differentiate us from each other, is our desire and ability to change. Look at you, trying to beat your past and starting a new beginning. You’re going to college Jae”
Jaejoong’s heart was pounding in his chest. The surprise was so good to be true. Was he really offered a chance to forget his past and start anew? And by none other than Yunho?
“I’m… “Jaejoong’s words were caught in his throat. He cleared his throat and tried to talk again. “I don’t know what to say”
“Let’s just start a new, alright? I just got back home, got your address from a friend and came to see you after four years. How’s that? Let’s see where life takes us”
Jaejoong stared at Yunho. “Just friends right?”
Yunho nodded. “Just friends” ‘For now’ He continued mentally.
Jaejoong took a minute to think about the proposal Yunho suggested. It was tempting, in fact, too tempting to begin with. If they started anew, nothing from what happened would matter, wouldn’t it? Then he would be able to spend more time with his long last best friend. He would be able to assess his emotions and sort them in a new angle, in a normal way where he wouldn’t be ashamed or reluctant to think about or just show them. Yes, it was a very good idea.
Jaejoong lifted his head and smiled at Yunho. He stood on his feet and walked closer until he was looking down at Yunho. He bent down, circled his arms around his friend and whispered.
“It’s good to see you again Yunho. Really missed you”
Yunho’s heart skipped a beat, his hands rested on Jaejoong’s forearm.
“Missed you too, Joongie”

For the next month, Jaejoong gave all his attention to his studies. He was working super hard to get as much information needed in his head as possible. The help from his family and friends increased, and with Yunho’s help, management wasn’t a problem.
Junsu graduated that month, and Jaejoong went to his graduation ceremony along with Yunho and Changmin. They met Yoochun’s family and even had a joint dinner for celebrating the new graduates.
In the past two months, Junsu tried hard to show his brother how much he really loved him. He helped him in his studies, and he himself worked hard in his studies as well. They spent long nights together, each studying a different topic, and during Junsu’s finals, Jaejoong usually made him late night snacks to boost his concentration. Their relationship was softening and getting more normal and less awkward day after day until they were finally comfortable to each other in the graduation day.
Changmin was a great help too. He was wise and genius, Jaejoong already knew that long time ago. However, he was strict too. He took the role of the harsh tutor, giving Jaejoong the material he was supposed to study and even giving him a deadline to finish them. He usually gave him pop quizzes every week to see where he got and whether he was following his instructions or not. When Jaejoong failed at some quizzes, he was punished by adding more materials to the pile he had.
Jaejoong wasn’t annoyed by Changmin’s behavior. He was actually thankful, because even if he had the determination, he was a normal student after all, getting bored from studying too much. Therefore, he just followed Changmin’s instructions and did as he was told. Additionally, when Changmin got really strict, Jaejoong would usually call Minho (He got his phone number from Changmin’s cell phone without him knowing) and complain about his boyfriend, and Minho was such an angel who made angry, scary tutor Changmin, a complete cute and obedient puppy. It was cute.
As for Yunho, he was just like the others, but slightly different. He was the same in terms of helping him in his studies. Truth to be said, Yunho was a great mentor, that and added to the fact that he was just Yunho. Jaejoong couldn’t deny his feeling for Yunho, because every time Yunho got closer to write on the same paper he was writing on, or read from the book in his hands, Jaejoong’s breath would caught and his heartbeats would increase in volume. He knew that he wanted Yunho, wanted him in his life and heart so bad it wasn’t even questionable. However, he didn’t know if he was ready to accept a new relationship in his life that involved him, his heart and his body. He wasn’t ready for any of that just yet, and he believed Yunho wasn’t either. They had to build their relationship with trust, respect and honesty; it was the only way for them to come to be.

“Ouch, why would you do that? What if the information got mixed up? I’m gonna blame you for it”

“He’s right, it’s an easy exam” Yunho said in a matter of fact kind of tone.
“Says the man who memorize everything after one look” Jaejoong rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
“Come on Jae. I was one of your mentors. Me, the genius Shim Changmin, You would never fail even if you want to”
“You’re thinking too high of yourself”
“Because it’s the truth, now go for it, you can do it. Your future depends on this test” Changmin put his hands on Jaejoong’s shoulders.
“I don’t know”
“WHO ARE YOU?” Changmin screamed.

“Kim Jaejoong?” Jaejoong answered confused. Just why was Changmin screaming?
“WHAT WERE YOU DOING FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS”

“Junsu, Yunho and you?”
“Couldn’t you put my name in the beginning?” Changmin whined and then his expressions were back to solid serious.
Yunho was watching them from the side, amused at their interaction. During the past month, he had had to interact with Changmin a lot. He was jealous at his relationship with Jaejoong, but after a week or so, he began to adore it. Jaejoong was so relaxed and happy when Changmin was around. He was cheerful, outgoing, and witty, just like Changmin, and up until now, just with Changmin.
“DO YOU TRUST YOUR MENTORS”
“Yes I do. Can you please stop screaming?”
“NO. WAS IT HARD TO STUDY”
Jaejoong rolled his eyes and decided to play along.
“YES IT WAS SO HARD”
“THEN YOU SHOULD TRUST YOURSELF. CAN YOU DO IT?”
“I CAN DO IT”
“I SAID, CAN YOU DO IT”
Jaejoong voice went higher. “YES I CAN DO IT AND I WILL DO IT”
“THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. YEAH BABY, YEAH”
“YEAH” Jaejoong screamed back and laughed. He whacked Changmin’s arms and laughed harder.
“That was a good strategy”
“I know, I’m just a genius”
Jaejoong’s phone vibrated, he got a video from Junsu and he opened it.
“Hyung, I’m sorry I can’t be there, but we’re in college now. You can do it hyung, fighting”
The scene was suddenly showing Yoochun on his piano and he was suddenly playing and singing “Fighting” like a crazy man.
The screen was full of Junsu’s face again. “Hyung, fighting”
Jaejoong laughed and showed the video to Yunho and Changmin. Few minutes later, he was seated on his chair with a pen in his hand and a test in front of him to answer.

All six downed their drinks in one go. Yoochun poured himself another drink and downed it by himself again.
“Yoochun, you shouldn’t drink too much” Junsu warned.
“Hey, we’re eighteen alright. And this thing is really tasty”
Junsu rolled his eyes and turned to look at Jaejoong’s smiling face.
“Hyung, congratulation, I knew you can do it” He cheered for his hyung, walked towards him and gave him a big hug.
“Thanks Su. I wouldn’t make it without your help”
Changmin scoffed beside him.
“All you guys’ helps” Jaejoong corrected nudging Changmin’s shoulder.
Changmin gave him a side-glance. He then shrugged playfully and hugged Jaejoong.
“I’m so proud of you” He lifted him and spun him around.
“Put me down, put me down” Jaejoong laughed hard, but Changmin didn’t let him down.
“Minnie, he said put me down, so DO IT”
Jaejoong’s laughter died, Changmin stopped spinning him around but stared at his boyfriend with dumbstruck expression.
“I-I-I… I mean…”
Changmin’s face broke into a huge grin. “Were you jealous?” He teased Minho, making him blush.
“I-I… I wasn’t… I was just…”
“Awwwww Changmin, don’t be mean to him” Jaejoong shoved Changmin aside and tried to give Minho a hug. But He was dragged away by the collar from behind before he even reached him.
“Nope, you’re not hugging him” Changmin said throwing him aside. “Come here baby” He said before hugging Minho and kissing him in front of everyone. Minho struggle a bit and tried to shove Changmin aside, but the latter pressed his lips against his harder. Finally, he didn’t have any other choice but to kiss him back.
“Seriously Changmin!” Jaejoong whined and Junsu and Yoochun giggled.
“They look cute together” Yunho suddenly spoke to Jaejoong.
Jaejoong stood still and smiled. “They do, don’t they?”
“Congratulation buddy. I knew you could do it”
“Thank you Yunho” Jaejoong said hugging Yunho.
Soft lips pressed against his cheeks, and as fast as they touched his face, they disappeared. A faint blush covered his cheeks and Yunho’s shy smile was forever printed in his memory.
“Y-Yunho?”
“Just a congratulation peck” He winked.
Yunho’s phone went off and he answered the call. From the look of it, he was talking to Donghae.
“Really? Oh my God congratulation man.”
“Hahaha, no I won’t”
“Pay for the food my ass; you’d had to pay for everything by yourself”
“God, you’re such a dick”
“Alright alright, bye. Will come over later. I will. Bye”
Yunho hung up the phone and cleared his throat.
“May I have your attention please?”
Everyone turned to look at him. Yoochun put his glass of wine down and Changmin stopped kissing Minho.
“My best friend Donghae is getting married. And he asked me to tell you that all of you are invited”
Everyone congratulated him and then spent the night celebrating.
When the night ended, Yoochun and Junsu went back to their dorms, and Changmin and Minho went as well. Yunho stayed after, helping Jaejoong with the remaining cleaning. After an hour, he was at the door, wearing his coat and shoes.
“Congrats. Now you’re officially a college student”
“I know” Jaejoong laughed softly. “If feels great”
Yunho smiled, happy seeing the smile back on Jaejoong’s face. He took a step forward and got Jaejoong’s hand in his. His heart was beating so fast in anticipation.
“Jaejoong, I… I wanted to ask you this a long time ago and…”
“What is it Yunho?” Jaejoong encouraged him.
Yunho took a deep breath and met Jaejoong’s eyes.
“Would you go out with me?”
Jaejoong’s heartbeats sped up. His cheeks were colored with a faint pink. He looked at Yunho and smiled. It was finally happening, and he couldn’t deny his heart anymore , couldn’t fight his emotions and suppress them anymore. So he squeezed Yunho’s hands and nodded.
“Yes, I will”

Changmin gave him a side-glance. He then shrugged playfully and hugged Jaejoong.
“I’m so proud of you” He lifted him and spun him around.
“Put me down, put me down” Jaejoong laughed hard, but Changmin didn’t let him down.
“Minnie, he said put me down, so DO IT”
Jaejoong’s laughter died, Changmin stopped spinning him around but stared at his boyfriend with dumbstruck expression.
“I-I-I… I mean…”
Changmin’s face broke into a huge grin. “Were you jealous?” He teased Minho, making him blush.
“I-I… I wasn’t… I was just…”
“Awwwww Changmin, don’t be mean to him” Jaejoong shoved Changmin aside and tried to give Minho a hug. But He was dragged away by the collar from behind before he even reached him.
“Nope, you’re not hugging him” Changmin said throwing him aside. “Come here baby” He said before hugging Minho and kissing him in front of everyone. Minho struggle a bit and tried to shove Changmin aside, but the latter pressed his lips against his harder. Finally, he didn’t have any other choice but to kiss him back.
“Seriously Changmin!” Jaejoong whined and Junsu and Yoochun giggled.
“They look cute together” Yunho suddenly spoke to Jaejoong.
Jaejoong stood still and smiled. “They do, don’t they?”
“Congratulation buddy. I knew you could do it”
“Thank you Yunho” Jaejoong said hugging Yunho.
Soft lips pressed against his cheeks, and as fast as they touched his face, they disappeared. A faint blush covered his cheeks and Yunho’s shy smile was forever printed in his memory.
“Y-Yunho?”
“Just a congratulation peck” He winked.
Yunho’s phone went off and he answered the call. From the look of it, he was talking to Donghae.
“Really? Oh my God congratulation man.”
“Hahaha, no I won’t”
“Pay for the food my ass; you’d had to pay for everything by yourself”
“God, you’re such a dick”
“Alright alright, bye. Will come over later. I will. Bye”
Yunho hung up the phone and cleared his throat.
“May I have your attention please?”
Everyone turned to look at him. Yoochun put his glass of wine down and Changmin stopped kissing Minho.
“My best friend Donghae is getting married. And he asked me to tell you that all of you are invited”
Everyone congratulated him and then spent the night celebrating.
When the night ended, Yoochun and Junsu went back to their dorms, and Changmin and Minho went as well. Yunho stayed after, helping Jaejoong with the remaining cleaning. After an hour, he was at the door, wearing his coat and shoes.
“Congrats. Now you’re officially a college student”
“I know” Jaejoong laughed softly. “If feels great”
Yunho smiled, happy seeing the smile back on Jaejoong’s face. He took a step forward and got Jaejoong’s hand in his. His heart was beating so fast in anticipation.
“Jaejoong, I… I wanted to ask you this a long time ago and…”
“What is it Yunho?” Jaejoong encouraged him.
Yunho took a deep breath and met Jaejoong’s eyes.
“Would you go out with me?”
Jaejoong’s heartbeats sped up. His cheeks were colored with a faint pink. He looked at Yunho and smiled. It was finally happening, and he couldn’t deny his heart anymore , couldn’t fight his emotions and suppress them anymore. So he squeezed Yunho’s hands and nodded.
“Yes, I will”
