Long way from Conway (49 part 1/?)

Apr 10, 2011 11:37

Thanks to the amazing groffiction for this awesome banner :)

A/N: Loved writing this. Now, I'm just giving an estimate of how a baby Jessie's age and stuff would be, so....I doubt it's accurate. Also, I'm not basing the birth certificate on a real one, just saying. So don't say i did it wrong. lol. I really hope you guys like this :) Enjoy!

"ADAM, I-"

He's cut off before he can even finish the simple sentence when he sees the beautiful sleeping figure of Adam sprawled out on his bed. He's unknowing, unharmed, peaceful.

Kris wonders for a moment if he should wake him up and tell him about all this. He wonders if, maybe, he could let him sleep and then surprise him with their baby girl and make his day calm and easy.

Then he remembers how Adam wanted to not miss a moment of being with Jessie. How he spent day and night talking about her.

He realizes that he just can't keep it from him.

He walks in slowly, as if he wouldn't be noticed, and sits down in the small chair near the large bed. Kris then runs his hand through Adam's hair gently, in hopes to wake Adam up. Adam finally wakes up, his eyes fluttering a bit, and grins brightly at Kris. Kris can only keep his stable, unchanged expression present. It scares Adam a bit.

"Hey babe," he whispers, "you okay?"

"Adam.....she's coming."

"Who's coming? Crystal?"

"Jessie," Kris replies, tears beginning to well up in his eyes, "and it isn't right."

Adam gulps. "Did that dog hurt our little girl?"

"No," Kris chokes out, not being able to hold his tears any longer, "Brad."

"Brad? What...why...he wouldn't hurt her, Kris!"

"He pushed Crystal into a wall," he continues, "and it ruptured the little sac around the baby."

"No."

"She was in a lot of pain, so I got the doctor, who told me that she was seven months pregnant, not six like we knew."

"No, Kris."

"They sent her here, and she's in labor."

"You're lying."

"She may be hurt or have more problems because of being born this early. And it's all because of-"

"Brad would NOT hurt Jessie, Kris," Adam suddenly growls, eyes sternly looking into Kris's. "I know him."

Kris sighs. "You know the Brad you used to date. Not the Brad that I saw earlier. He didn't even pay attention to his actions and just...threw her."

"Brad loves us. He wouldn't ever-"

"I sent him away, Adam."

Adam gasps. "What the hell, Kris?"

"I don't want him to hurt Jessie any more."

"Brad deserves to see Jessie be born, too, Kris. I say he can."

"I say he can't," Kris fires back, "and I'm her real father, so my choice stands."

Adam looks back at Kris in shock as fresh tears fall down his face. How could he say that? Did he not know that that would hurt? That that would sting?

That that was untrue?

"How dare you, Kris? How dare you say I'm not her real father, too? I'm going to be just as much of a father to her as you will be when she gets older, and you know it!"

"Well, I'm sorry, but I right now am her biological father, and I get to call the shots. Brad isn't allowed to see Jessie. At all. End of story."

"What is with you, Kris? You....seem so tense and unforgiving. It...it's not like you."

"Oh, so you're going to just yell at me? Wow, someone's being nice today!"

"What the hell.....Kris.......just......just leave, please. Before....before..."

"Before what, Adam?"

"BEFORE I DO SOMETHING I'LL REGRET," he shouts, startling Kris a lot more than expected. "Just.....just go, please Kristopher."

Kris sighs and then gets up to walk over to the door. Once he makes it about halfway out the door, he turns around and looks at Adam sadly, seeing him look so...torn. It hurt to know he did that to him, but hey, it had to be done according to him.

"I.....I'll come get you when the time comes. I-if you want."

Adam quietly nods and then motions for Kris to leave. Kris nods back and slowly shuts the door. After a minute of standing at it, he turns around to head off to go see Crystal.

That's when he comes face to face with a very panicked nurse.

"Are you Kris Allen?" Kris nods and then jumps a bit when she grabs his arm tighter than anything and starts to bring him towards the elevator.

"What is this about? Why...where are we going?"

"Your wife Crystal is having her baby now. We must hurr-"

"Wait," he begs, pulling the nurse to a stop, "two things. One, I am NOT her husband. I am the father, that's it. Second, you have to get my boyfriend up to see my daughter be born, too."

"No time," the nurse says quickly before shoving Kris into an elevator and hopping in behind him. "The baby will be here in any minute. We'll be lucky if we even make it."

Kris blinks in shock as the door to the third floor opens up in front of them, revealing the maternity ward for them to see. It sounded so peaceful, and then....

"GET THIS THING OUUUUUUUUUUT!!!!!!"

The nurse gulps. "She's not taking the pain very well."

"Amen to that," Kris whispers. Soon, he and the very nervous nurse were walking into the darkened room to see Crystal pushing with all her might on her own hospital bed with many nurses having to pin her down. A whole other group of nurses watch on from their posts in front of machines and other typical equipment for a newborn baby.

Kris can't believe that all of this is just for a small baby.

"KRIS," Crystal yells in joy from her spot on the bed, "I'M SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE! SO NICE TO HAVE YOU HERE BY MY SIDE!"

Kris snorts. "So happy to see you in pain, Crystal. I swear, the second that baby leaves, you're going back to prison where you deserve to rot forever."

"He doesn't mean that," she pants during her small ten second break, "he just says that 'cause he HAS TO COVER UP HIS GAYNESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!"

"Oy," he replies, looking at the blond witch. Suddenly, her screams begin to rise in pitch, and her legs are risen higher, and yup, Kris is soooooooooo gay.

"Okay Crystal, here comes the head!"

"I WILL KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T SHUT UUUUUUUUUP!"

"The head's out!"

"Oh dear God."

"GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT!"

"Here comes the shoulders!"

"MY FREAKIN GOSH, OWWWWW!"

"That looks like it hurts."

"Just a few more pushes, Crystal!"

"OH MY GOSH GET THIS THING OUT OF ME!"

"Ouch."

"Arms are out! Just one more push and-"

"THIS KID HAS HUGE FREAKIN HIPS, I TELL YOU!"

"Yes, it's almost over."

"Annnnnd......happy birthday, baby! It's a girl!"

Kris freezes in shock as he watches his little girl be placed on Crystal's chest and get cleaned up, her small body now swarmed with tons of towels and blankets.

He can hear her cry.

"Ugh, get her off me...she's so...bloody and gross."

Kris has to clench his fists on that note.

No one calls his baby girl gross.

The tiny baby then is whisked off towards the equipment, her tiny screams still prominent throughout the room. He watches as they place her tiny body on a towel filled rectangular bowl looking thingy with weighing equipment attached to it and begin to weigh her.

"Four pounds, one ounce," a nurse calls out to another nurse nearby with what supposedly is her birth certificate. "Golden brown hair, bluish-green eyes, and......she's eleven and a quarter inches long."

Kris can't help but smile. She sounds beautiful.

Maybe those eyes of hers would remind him of Adam, not Crystal.

The same nurse who called out now gently takes one of the screaming baby's feet and dabs it with ink, doing the same with the later seconds after. The nurse with the certificate walks up to them and carefully presses both feet on the paper, a smile gracing her face as a grunt comes from the tiny baby.

"She seems to not like getting dirty," another nurse says, walking up to her with a wet towel. "She's a very girly girl, I guess."

"She's doing fantastically for a baby in her condition," the one male nurse there says as he wraps her up in a pink blanket. "I wouldn't be surprised if she can go home within the week."

Wiping a tear of joy from his eyes, Kris steps forward to sneak a gaze at the small baby that he oh-so-waited for. All he can see is the small bundle of pink.

It makes him nearly burst into tears.

The nurse who took the weight suddenly walks up and takes the bundle into her loving arms, nuzzling it with a cute giggle. She then walks over to Crystal and clears her throat to get her attention. Crystal nearly glares at her.

"What do you want," Crystal growls, moaning a bit, "a freakin signature on the kid?"

"I just wanted to know if you'd like to hold her, being the mother and all," she replies, holding the bundle slightly closer to Crystal. Crystal rolls her eyes and pushes gently at the bundle, making the nurse's jaw drop in surprise.

"Uh, no," she finally says, disgust in her voice. The nurse can't help but gasp.

"She's your daughter."

"I know."

"But-"

"Um," Kris buts in, taking a step in their direction, "I'd, er....like to hold her, if I may."

The nurse smiles and quickly walks over to the shaky Kris, her eyes shimmering as Kris eyes the bundle curiously.

"Do you know how to hold a baby?"

Kris slowly nods. "Kinda."

"Well," she says, getting very close to Kris, "how's about you give it a try and I'll help you if you make any mistakes?"

"That...that'd be great," he says with a small laugh. "Very great."

The little girl is placed into Kris's arms with all the delicacy in the world, and the moment he sees her, and their skin meets, his world seems to freeze at the moment.

He forgets about Crystal and how Brad nearly caused hell. He forgets his fight with Adam and he forgets that he was shot.

All he can think is that he's a father now.

"Jessie," he whispers out, a tear falling from his bloodshot eyes, "you're finally here."

"Jessie?" Kris turns around to see Crystal glaring angrily from her bed, helpless and furious. "Who gave her that name?"

Kris just smiles at her. "Adam and I."

"Oh hell no," she snaps, "she's my baby, and I get to name her."

"You do that," Kris replies, "but it won't stay. You know why?"

"Why?"

"I went and got custody of her. Besides, the police don't want her to grow up a jail baby. Thus, I get her. Adam's her other parent, too. So ha. Deal with it."

Crystal growls, but the nurses all quickly restrain her some more, making her efforts useless. Kris suddenly feels the little baby shift in his arms and make another grunting noise, making him laugh.

She then opens her eyes.

They're like two pools of beauty.

They remind him of Adam's.

It's the most pretty shade of aquamarine in Jessie's little eyes that just is tugging on Kris's heart strings one by one. She blinks at him quickly and then starts to examine him, her face almost looking determined. Kris laughs.

"She's adorable," he gasps out, his emotions beginning to get overwhelming. "I.....I can't believe....wow."

"You want to sign her birth certificate as her father? I mean, we'll have to wait to get Adam's, but-"

"Adam," Kris says suddenly, looking down at his little girl, "he...he missed this. I.....I have to see him. Could I bring her..? So we can finish the certificate as a family?"

The nurse just smiles and motions for him to leave. Kris smiles, nuzzles his little girl, and then walks out into the bright hallway, causing Jessie to shut her eyes and stir a bit.

"Quiet my dear," he says with a bright smile, "don't want to be crying when you meet your papa."

--------------------------------------------

"Brad, I'm so sorry."

Brad looks up at Adam and just sadly smiles at his friend, his bangs falling into his face.

"It's fine. He deserves to hate me. I nearly caused Jessie to die. Heck, for all I know-"

"She'll live," Adam quickly cuts off, "I know it. She'll be a strong girl."

"I hope you're right."

"Brad?"

"Yeah?"

"I don't think Kris hates you. And if it makes you feel any better, I don't either. I love you."

Brad grins brightly. "Thanks babe. I....I know he couldn't have meant it, but...you know, it just hurts when he's mad."

"I feel your pain."

"He's just so worried about Jessie. If I hurt that little baby, I don't know, Adam...........I'd probably have to kill myself."

Adam shakes his head and grabs Brad's hand tight. He then looks into Brad's eyes and shakes his head even more stern.

"No. Don't you even say that. What so ever."

"But Adam-"

"If you kill yourself, Brad, you'll miss out with Cass, and Jessie, and the possibility of being introduced to Madonna..."

"That's good motivation, Lambert."

"I know what you like, sweetie."

"Stop being sexy while your little girl is in the area. It just feels....weird."

"Sorry for being sexy."

Brad snorts and slaps Adam's arm, making him yelp loudly in pain. It made Brad laugh loudly as he got up to leave the room. Just when he reaches the door, he hears Adam start to laugh, too, and it makes him smile.

He made his friend happy.

That's what he needed.

-------------------------------------------

As Kris walks the halls of the hospital towards where Adam is laying, he can't help but revel in the adorableness that is his little girl. Finally, her beautiful eyes finally appeared again and she now was huddled close to Kris.

It was a freakin cute sight to see.

All of a sudden, Kris sees Leila and Eber rush to his side, followed by his own parents, worried looks on their eyes.

They then look down and see Jessie lying peacefully in Kris's arms, and all that changes.

"Oh my gosh," Leila says, looking at little Jessie, "she's gorgeous."

"Her eyes are pretty awesome," Eber adds with a loving smile.

"I can't believe this adorable girl is my granddaughter," Kim chokes out, trailing her finger along the blanket.

"She's beautiful," Neil also adds, holding Kim close on his arm, "just like you were when you were little."

Leila smiles as Jessie turns her way. "Hey pretty girl. Happy Birthday."

Kris giggles with the others  as Jessie grunts in reply to Leila. Suddenly, Allison and Tommy appear with the group, their eyes transfixed to Jessie as if she was some kind of life-saver. Allison squeals and hugs Kris around the shoulders, gazing down at Jessie lovingly. Tommy smiles and inches closer to the little baby, his motions cautious for some weird reason. Kris dismisses it, though, and reaches over his shoulder to place a small kiss on Allison's nose. She laughs and hugs Kris tighter in response.

"This girl is going to be my God daughter," Allison chimes happily, "and she's gorgeous as heck."

"She has your nose, Kris," Tommy points out, extending his finger out just inches away from Jessie's nose, making her almost cross eyed. That is, before Allison swats it away.

"Careful! My little girl needs to stay beautiful," she snaps, hitting his arm. Suddenly, Jessie starts to whine, and before they can stop her, she's crying loudly. Kris tries bouncing her a bit, but she keeps going. He quickly looks to Leila, but she only shrugs and motions for him to continue. Same with his mom.

"Try singing," Tommy offers. "Babies like music."

Looking down at his crying girl, Kris sighs and begins to sing a tune he knew.

"Baby mine, don't you cry.
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart.
Never to part, baby of mine.

Little one when you play.
Don't you mind what you say.
Let those eyes sparkle and shine.
Never a tear, baby of mine.

If they knew sweet little you,
They'd end up loving you too.
All those same people who scold you.
What they'd give just for
The chance to hold you.

From your head to your toes.
Your not much, goodness knows.
But your so precious to me.
Cute as can be, baby of mine."

Jessie's now quiet and asleep, lulled to it by the calmness of Kris's voice, and the whole group can't help but smile.

His song was gorgeous.

"Now," he says as he begins to walk to Adam's room with the nurse, "I'll be back. You guys go find some waiting area and meet us there, okay?"

Understanding completely, Leila and Kim quickly shuffle the group away, sly smiles on every single face. Kris soon meets the door to Adam's room and is forced to watch as the nurse opens the door for him.

This is it.

Their family is to be united for the first time.

It's going to be complete, harm free.

"Mr. Lambert...."

---------------------------------------------

Adam goes completely speechless when he sees Kris next to the strange and alien nurse at his door. All he can see is a small pink blanket in his arms and a smile on Kris's face, and that makes his heart swell with joy. The moment Kris is inside, the nurse leaves, giving Kris a small reminder that she'll be just outside.

"Kris," Adam gasps out, "why...I thought..."

"She came a bit faster than planned," he says with a chuckle. "I barely caught our little girl myself. But....she's here!"

"Can....can I see her?"

Kris just nods and walks over to Adam, placing the tiny girl into his more built arms. Adam blinks curiously at Jessie, waiting for some sort of action, until finally, Jessie begins to wake up. Her tiny eye lids flutter open, and the second she sees Adam, it's love.

Adam, still astonished and curious, reaches out to Jessie with his pointer finger, and just by that small motion, Jessie manages to reach her tiny hand out and grabs onto the tip of Adam's finger. It makes Adam suddenly start happily crying while unexpected laughter escapes his lips.

He was so happy.

"Kris, I think she likes me," he says incredulously. "A lot, too!"

"I can tell," Kris replies, running a hand through his hair. "You look so....captivated by her."

"I may be only seventeen, but I know one thing....she's adorable."

Kris laughs and kisses Adam's forehead before motioning for the nurse to come in. She quickly walks in and smiles at Adam.

"Mr. Lambert, I'm here to help you and Kris out with finishing little Jessie's birth certificate. Do you mind?"

Adam shakes his head and then giggles at his daughter. "No ma'am. Go on and tell me what I have to do."

"Well, first off, we need to have this little girl's full name."

Adam smiles at Kris and then answers. "Jessica Marie Allen-Lambert."

The nurse smiles and then quickly writes down the words. Kris raises his eyebrow, a question bubbling up on his lips.

"Allen-Lambert? We aren't mar-"

"But we will soon," Adam cuts off with a cheesy wink. Kris laughs and blushes a bit in second-hand embarrassment.

"Okay, now about her God parents..."

"Allison Iraheta, our friend, is her God mother," Kris answers as he pets Jessie's head.

"And James Walker and Duncan Ben James are the God fathers," Adam answers kindly. Kris, again, sends him a questioning look. Adam giggles.

"What? Ben told me his first name!"

"Seriously?"

"No lie. Ask him yourself."

"Fine. I will."

Breaking the awkward silence that followed their little banter, the nurse looked to the boys and asked one final question.

"Who will her other legal guardians be?"

Kris immediately exchanges a look with Adam and shrugs. They had absolutely no clue about this choice at all.

Well, Kris didn't. Adam had an idea, though.

"What about Brad and Cassidy?"

For a second, Kris's face turned blank as a ghost, but then, that blankness soon was filled with anger.

"No, Adam."

"But Kris-"

"He almost hurt Jess."

"He's beating himself up about this, Kris."

"Jessie could be dead because of him."

"He seriously was considering killing himself if something happened to-"

"Whoa," Kris said, cutting Adam short, "he was going to.....Brad?"

Adam nodded. "You two need to stop this feud now that Jess is okay, or else Brad will continue to beat himself up about it and possibly act on his words for once."

"He wouldn't....would he?"

"He may. He is unpredictable."

"Fine then," Kris says in agreement to the nurse, "Brad Bell and Cassidy Haley will be her other guardians."

The nurse nods and then gently takes Jessie into her arms to allow the boys to sign her certificate. Kris is first, and he writes with his best handwriting.

Only the best for his little girl.

Next, he hands it to Adam who, also, writes in his very best handwriting. He smiles and trades the paper for baby Jessie, taking her into his arms as if he'd been doing it his whole life. The nurse leaves them, then, and the minute she's gone, Kris is sitting next to Adam on his bed, gazing at his little girl from Adam's shoulder contently.

Their little girl was alive and theirs. Only theirs.

Crystal couldn't do anything about it. She couldn't dare touch Jessie even if she tried.

Jessie was their baby girl.

Jessica Marie Allen-Lambert was their baby.

They were fathers now.

Fathers.
