Went trekking from Río Blanco to Laguna Rapagna, two places in northern Lima which you shouldn't be aware of. It was between 3500 and 4500 metres above sea level, all in all, so we had to deal with altitude sickness and all sorts of shit. It was just five other students and two teachers, particularly Sandro, who's the school drama guy.
So anyway, we left on Sunday morning, at about 8 am, and walked from Río Blanco all the way up to Ucuscancha, where we set camp and went to sleep. There were pumas about at night, so we just kept to our tents for most of the dark hours.
Monday morning, we wake up really early and pack everything up to get going again, when a local shepherd comes up to us to warn us: Last night a wild bull had gored one of his horses and ran back to the mountains, where we were headed.
So we were like "Whoa, okay." We climbed this really fucking high trail, and about an hour and a half in, we're almost in Laguna Rapagna. Rapagna is this huge, 300-metre deep lake at the top of the mountains we were walking through, and it's completely fucking beautiful. We're crossing right into the break of two cliffs to get there, when to our right we spot this wild black fucking bull. And it's spotted us, too. The thing is kicking the ground at us, it's even starting to trot downhill toward us.
We go, no fucking way, and head the entire other way. We rounded the entire cliff to get to the lake, where Sandro was-he'd walked right past the bull without either of them noticing. It was totally worth it, though. That lake was so beautiful. I'll post some pictures. There's even a video of us hiding from the bull (Who later came down to get us while we were distracted) and discussing how to kill it. I'll put it on Youtube when I get it on my hands.
Rio Blanco, right before we set off.
Off we go.
Pepe.
I REALLY like this picture. I'm the one with the brown cap.
The guy in the middle, with the walking stick, warned us about the bull. He turns 81 this February and is in better shape than any of us. He was also getting an eye operation the following day.
I'm telling you this lake is beautiful.
Left to right: Sandro, Pepe, Prentice, me, Accame, Boris and Maskrey. Mr. Sanchez took the picture.
