startrek_crack for "Superhero AU". I thought 'huh, sounds interesting'. Then I spotted a square on my
cliche_bingo card that reads "Mutation/physical transformation".

In this verse, she spends a few years tracking down cyberterrorists and online records of illegal activity and sends the relevant information to local officials from non-existent email addresses. She signs most of them "Uhuru", but signs ones sent to engineers and computer technicians (and people who will actually understand/respect the work involved) with an asterisk to symbolize her name. There's a silly scene in my head involving Jim trying to guess her name and Scotty revealing that he already knows it.
She tries to hack the Narada to stop it from dropping the drill but can't communicate with it, which pushes her to look into xenolinguistics to get a better understanding of alien computer programming. And then she invents the Universal Translator long before its prime!verse counterpart ( ... )
