Last year I bought three bags of candy, handed out double-candy to the few kids who showed up, and ended up with nearly all of it left over. (I ate the leftover Nerds myself, since I really like Nerds and only get them once a year, but the leftover gummy body parts went to my office, where they were a huge hit. Go figure.)
This year I bought three bags of candy, and figured it was way overkill... and I ran out by 8 pm and and had to run out to buy more. And that after going down to one piece of candy per kid after the first fifteen kids or so. We had over sixty kids show up. Next year I'll have to go for at least 100 pieces. (Also noted for next year: most showed up between dusk and 8 pm, although we did have one straggler group at 9:05, in which one of the kids plaintively said "I'm so tired.")
I keep track of costumes, mostly because I like to track the number of princesses after the first year here, when I couldn't *believe* the number of princesses who showed up. This year? I think we had two princesses, tops, and one of those had a (fake) bloody weapon protruding from her head. Other things we had two of: hippies, Tinkerbells, Victorian girls (one Alice, one generic), Superman/Supergirl (one of each), and UPS men (those two were together). The really big costumes here this year were cats and witches.
ETA: I just checked my entry from Halloween last year, and it was worse than I remembered -- we only had FOUR KIDS. We went from FOUR KIDS to over sixty kids in ONE YEAR. Bwa?
