I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long to follow up - I took a job recently and I wasn't expecting it to interact with all my classes and turn into... I don't know, Workzilla, eater of my free time?
Did you still want help with your Tale issue? From what you said, I'm not sure it's really magic, but I'm not sure it isn't, and anyway, I've found that I can carry over the focus-and-concentration part into other areas of my life.
...of course, you may also get conscripted into giving me your opinion on my abstract of Tam Lin, should you come anywhere within 100 feet of me. I chose it for that Storytelling class because using my own Tale seemed a little cheap. And, well, hello Eleanor: writing a story that you didn't experience firsthand is much harder! I'm not sure I'm really capturing the essence of the tale. It's Tam-Lin-ness, if you will.
