Letters to Bernard and Tim

Feb 01, 2006 17:47

Two parchment-type envelopes addressed in fine spider-calligraphy, one to Bernard, the other, Tim.

Dear Mister Bernard,

I am unsure as to how to address you, as Lock, Shock and Barrel have taken to calling you by your first name only (I assume Bernard is your first name? If it is not, I beg apologies). I am Jack Skellington, King and Protector of Halloween Town.

I do not know if you are aware of Halloween Town in any capacity whatsoever, but I am fully aware of the Human World. I can travel fairly freely between the Human World and my own, and the same goes for Christmas Town and the other Holiday Worlds. Alas, I have never in my travels stumbled upon this place Milliways, but from what Lock Shock and Barrel have related to me, it is a fine place of wonder and excitement.

But that is not why I am writing this letter to you.

I write this letter as the guardian (of sorts) of Lock Shock and Barrel. I feel, as they are residents of my Town, responsible for them. Should they do anything wrong in another world (or TO another world), I feel it is my duty to set things right. I ask you, Mister Bernard, to please let me know if there are amends to be made.

They are presently in possession of five pumpkins and five ghosts, all of which speak and have personalities of their own, including Mrs. Pye, who is very helpful. Have you any questions, just ask her. Should the other pumpkins get out of hand, she will order them back into line. I have included two more large pumpkins aside from the five that are reserved for your daughter Sunny, for your own use, should you wish to keep a child in one. They are quite comfortable, and I managed to convince one of my friends to enlarge both so that up to three Human Children (or three Trick or Treaters) could fit in one comfortably.

Lock, Shock and Barrel are fine beings, if but a little wild. They just haven't ever had a proper guardian to show them right from wrong.

Sincerely,

Jack Skellington

The following was doubly striken out: After thought: They also tell me that there is a woman there, a ragdoll called Sally. If you could let them know that if they go near her I will string them from the boughs of the Willow Tree by their entrails, it would be greatly appreciated.

After Thought: I have included some gold, hopefully enough to pay whatever tab Lock, Shock and Barrel and Sally, a dear friend of mine who has apparently entered your establishment, have accumulated.

Included with note: A sketch of a rag doll, with the name "Sally" etched across the bottom.

~~~~~***~~~~~
Dear Mister Tim Hunter,
My name is Jack Skellington, and I am the King of Halloween Town, where Lock Shock and Barrel are from. They have told me a few things about you, such as that you are a magic user, very different from the witches of my world. They have told me about spells you have cast, including one which I was lucky enough to witness the after-effects of! You appear at first glance to be incredibly clever, and I appreciate the authoritative hold you have over Lock, Shock and Barrel. If you wish to contact me, for any reason, please do. I like to keep abreast of what my people are up to in other places.
Sincerely thankful for the help,
Jack Skellington.
Included with the letter is a flat coin in the shape of a pumpkin, with a note saying it has been enchanted to (hopefully) keep a line of communication open between Jack and Tim.
