Woooo, more house-related ramblings!

Woohoo! Dad came over and we fixed the drain! Admittedly he put the plunger bit in wrong, but that was easy enough for me to fix.

There was a little setback midway through doing it, he was sawing through the pipe down below and... midway through it just... cracked. Cracked right in half. It was so horribly corroded inside that too, I can punch through it with my fingers if I tried. So he ended up going further, past that pipe and into the one that connects into the wall, sawed the end of that off (which was no easy feat), and we stuck the rubber piece on that. That pipe was fine, no corrosion really there, it was thick and strong.

Anyway, sink is all fixed up, and at some point later this week mum and I need to stop by the hardware store and get a thing to fix the toilet in the pink bathroom, to stop it from making a noise like running water (dad pointed out what I would need). I think we might also pick up some wire mesh for the back door screen, fix that up.

We've decided to actually fix up the house as best as we're able, then sell it. We want to do it now, so that she still has money to fix it up, and then she's going to buy a small one, two bedroom house somewhere. I suggested NH or somewhere thereabouts because that way she'll be close to me and Dianne, and she has friends in the area. She should be able to get a small house for a decent price (less than our 3+ bed 2.5 bath, 2-car garage house will sell for, regardless of it's condition). The only caveat is that she'll have to still be living here while we sell it. We don't have anywhere near enough money to buy a second house AND sell this one at the same time.

I think it'll be worth it though, so long as we do some basic work (and get a plumber in to fix the sink in the downstairs bathroom, behind the wall), we should be able to sell the house for a good... $200+? I think... the market's gone down a LOT.

Well, we'll see. I really do think she can get a nice 2-3 bedroom, 1-2 bath house in Dover or thereabouts for under $100k.

Okay yeah, just looked online and there's houses RIGHT near us (like, a stree away) with less bedrooms/bathrooms that are selling for over $200k. Admittedly we'd have to come down on the price of our house a bit because of the age and the condition, but still that's a pretty decent amount.

Asked mom and she said she would like a house in a more rural area, but I think that would cost way, way more than she can afford. I think she's going to have to settle for a small house in Dover, or maybe somewhere in Massachusetts. Frankly I think it's fine if it's not somewhere rural, she'll be happy so long as she can hook up her kiln.

Anyway, we're probably going to go out and get some wire mesh for the screen door and a new thing for the toilet. We need to get some storm window glass for the dining room window that broke, too, but we might want to get actual window repair people to do that, make sure the glass is cut right and the right thickness, all of that.

I'm still worried about the circuit breaker box because of the rusting and it being so damned old it's not actually up to code, but...

Oh, we need to get the garage door fixed, too. *sighs* I wonder if Dad, Max, and I can do that ourselves. It just needs two new springs.

So much work to be done on this house before we can sell it. Hopefully it will be well worth it, though. Here's hoping.

(Totally unrelated, my laptop is being slow as molasses, I think it's time for a restart.)
