...Big Legged Sammy Ain't Got No Soul!

Ummm... hmmmm.... This episode was a bit Meh for me. In just the Post before this one, I said that I was pretty sure we were only going to learn a little, would have more questions than ever and that the BIIIIG reveals probably wouldn't happen til after the hiatus.

A little, I said. We'd find out a little.

So what did we find out?

1) Sammy's got no Soul (though most of us knew that)
2) The big secret guy Grandpa's been conversing with = Crowley.
3) What pulled Sam and Gramps out of Hell = Crowley
4) Where's Sammy's Soul = Crowley's got it.
5) Alpha Dude = Just an Alpha Vamp
6) Christian's a Demon
7) Dean's Big Dream Sequence... might not mean as much as it should *

* This one I'll still hold out hope for. I'd hate to think something that cool would be signifying nothing.

But anyone else feel like you just opened all your Christmas presents and it's not even Thanksgiving? Yeah. That t'was quite a load they just shot there.

But anyway, let me try to get coherent and take it play by play. (If I can even remember it all- oversaturated as I am with Big!Reveals)

Opening Sequence:

Dr. Castiel in the House! Hee! I love his bedside manner!  I gotta hand it to them for introducing the concept early on that Cas could read souls- and that it hurt. Cas goes digging around in Sam's chest while Sam puts some mighty teeth marks into Castiel's belt... and 80 billion kink fics just erupted in that instant. Sassy. But Cas's Soul!Dipstick comes out dry. Sam's been running on empty! BO-DOHHHHHH!

But poor Sammy. Beat up, tied up, hole for a soul. Just as a quick aside- my stars but Jared Padalecki is a giant man! I'm sure that was just a regular chair they trussed him up in, but he makes it look like a toddler seat! And when Dr. Cas was checking his pulse Misha's fingers looked so tiny against his giant neck.

Dean's still pretty P.O.'ed about the whole sitch and Sam's Puppy Eyes no longer work without a soul behind them. He'll let Soulless!Sam ride shotgun, but he's not going to pretend to be happy about it. They need answers, and go to Campbell Compound.

Campbell Compound is a silly place... no wait, that's Camelot. But Campbell Compound has never been as interesting to me as I think it should be. Remember when Kripke gladly burnt down the Roadhouse because it was always full of hunters just sitting around, sharpening weapons and cleaning their guns? Well, Campbell Compound is a lot like that- But the Roadhouse at least had good music, good booze and good people (Ellen, Jo and Ash- how I miss 'em!) Campbell Compound just has the weapons cleaning with none of the charm. SIGHS!

But the boys interrogate Gramps about where and how he came to come back and sic Dr. Cas on him to apparently reenact some scenes from OZ that we don't get to see (Seriously! Why exactly was Gramps standing for that scene? How thorough did they get with his cavity search? I'll sleep better to not think on it anymore!) But Gramps has a soul- Look Sammy's jealous... awww... Gramps has no patience for anymore of the boys' Soul Searching and tom foolery. There are Alpha Vamps that need huntin'! And wrong as Soulless!Sam is, Gramps likes him and knows him better than Dean. But Dean wants in. Methinks he just wants to keep his friends close... and his enemies closer.

They get down to business. They get to Vamp Central and Gwen gets stuck babysitting the "Reject"- that would be Dean. Poor Dean. For all his deep loyalties to "Family"- let's face it. His family is full of Douchebags! He chats with Cousin Gwen and EEEEK! A Vamp! A Vamp that goes splat in a lovely bit of gore. Gwen's an excellent Babysitter...but that Vamp Blood got DANGEROUSLY close to Dean's lips! Still, Dean has a flashback to the funky dreamsequence... but it doesn't tell him much. Weather Vein, Creepy Doll, Creepy Twins and Alpha Vamp. I hope that all means more than to let him know he's in the right place. Vamps go splat left and right. I thought the Vamp Girl splatted by the window screamed out "DEAN!" before she died. But full confession, I have a lot of wax in my ears right now, so feel free to prove me wrong on that count.

Dean does not have wax in his ears, for he hears suspicious mumblings and catches the two Sams obsconding with the Alpha Vamp. They BOTH lie to him and say the Alpha's dead. But Dean's not having it from Young Sam. Oy, I thought Sammy was about to get another Big Bro Beatdown there but he really doesn't get it- at all. Soulless!Sam is SCAAAAARRRRY! He has no moral compass whatsoever. However, when Dean tells him he has to choose between Gramps and him, Sam makes the choice... and Chooses Gramps?!?! Nah, I knew it was all a ruse! As wrong as Sam's been, there's no way he'd not choose Dean. He has no Soul but he has memories. And Winchester blood runs thicker tham Campbell soup... plus Gramps is still more savvy about Velcro than GPS's (Really? When did Velcro come out? Was it the latest thing when Gramps croaked it in 1973?)

They get to Alpha interrogation and... I Like Alpha Vamp! He's deeply evil! Very suave in his evil ways. "When your kind first huddled around the fire, I was the thing lurking in the dark" Good for you Alpha Vamp! Gramps can't crack this cookie. I liked his long nail, taking his time, scraping away his bonds. He rocks. Please come back soon Alpha Vamp!

The boys decide they can catch more flies without Dead Man's Blood and have a nice friendly chat to find out - What's it all About, Alphie? (Heh) And it's about...Purgatory.... Oh... Ok... Whatevs?

Gramps is disappointed in his boys and I? Am disappointed in Gwen. I thought that after bonding slightly with Cousin Dean and her bitterness over being left out so often by Gramps she'd have new loyalties, but nope. Alpha Vamp breaks free without breaking a nail and random guy is toast. So's Christian... uhh.... waaah? Nah, he was way too much of a Douche for me to mourn. Sammy? Is almost Alpha Vamp's new pet, but Dead Douche Christian is actually Demon Douche Christian and that's? Just plain sloppy of the Campbell Clan! Mandatory Demon Testing, y'all. Look into it!

And now we meet the Big Bad and... it's Crowley! I squeed briefly, for I am a Crowley!Girl... or at least I was. He's King of Hell, we got that. But he also pulled Gramps up. And Sam too. And he has Sammy's Soul... and this is all about again.... Purgatory? Really? I'm just having a hard time understanding why that's such a big deal. Real Estate says Crowley. Now.... maybe it's important because well I guess it's like Monopoly? As King of Hell, Crowley's got hotels on Park Place and Boardwalk but not enough souls are hitting his properties before they get to GO and Collect $200. So he wants all the Green Properties too? That will get him? What? Closer to Heaven? Is this what he's wanting? I'm just. I'm not seeing the point in the end game here. I'm not seeing what the dire consequences will be beyond what they already are which is monsters run amok and angels embroiled in Civil War. This is why this got Meh for me.

And Crowley lost some brownie points with me because as a mildly self centered soul grabbing baddie, he's utterly delightful. But as the Ultimate Big Bad... well... I mean... he's just not that imposing at all. (Scottish Leprachans = Not Scary!)

And now that the cat's out of the bag so to speak, I'm not having much to gasp and ponder over. Gramps has lost his mystique as well. What are his motives? I'm guessing he wants to bring Mary and his wife back. I mean, he's been dead nearly 40 years. What else could he hope to gain out of any of this? And his minions? Well, really, why are they following him? He's been working for a Demon all along. And yet they follow.

Soulless!Sam has no issues shooting his Grandpa now, but Dean gets him to back down. So we'll get more Gramps. But I'm having a hard time caring. SIGHS again.

There were highlights at least. Everything I said about Jared being a giant? Well, Castiel is bigger than the Chrysler Building! WOW!

Dean? Dean was on FIRE with the zingers tonight. So many I lost count! My favorite was I believe: "Grandpa's Kermit. Who's hands' up his ass?"

The boys- well they still have issues. But Sam- Soulless or no choosing Dean over Gramps I think has at least started building a bridge over that chasm. I hope. Now it's Operation get Sammy's Soul back. Hmmm... and since Crowley has it, I believe my pal cece_away was right. There's fine print on Sam's Naughty Bits! WOO HOO!!! *rushes to buy blacklight*

Next week? Oy, I couldn't make heads or tails out of that preview. So Confooozed!
