The walk from my bed to my desk is the very taxing three feet so I don't really count grins*. The main office I go to is 50 miles away so I'm not going to try.

Mrs P walks to work whenever she can and we're cutting out more and more of our short journeys in the car. We're now paying the same per litre for fuel as I did per gallon when I started to drive.

Hey, I'd like a job like that! My brother works at home too. He works for an insurance company. He helps people with disability situations. Anyway his company headquarters is very far away.

I would love to walk or ride a bike on good weather days but the new job has put me further away from home. 27 miles as opposed to 5. :(

The location goes past where my wife works so we're going to begin commuting together next week. We have tried it on a few days but many of our, or the kids, appointments keep forcing us to drive separately. It's for drastic measure though, with gas prices jumping on a daily basis, so we life will just have to change a little.

Hopefully, more and more people will start looking for ways to conserve and save instead of thumbing their noses at our environment.

I hope you have a safe walking path to and from work. The thing with changes in behavior like this, is you put yourself in a different set of circumstances. We've had a lot of issues with woman being accosted and molested in a few towns lately. It burns me up that people can't feel safe going for a walk.

I wonder if an increase in walkers will mean an increase in dog owners as well? (*thoughtful)

My entire walk is through a residental area. No highways, nothing like that. We are a suberb next to a univestiy. It's a fairly quiet area, but I would be a fool to believe that there is no crime.

I do carry a spray, but have never had to use it. I am aware of my surroundings all the time. I don't listen to music when I walk.

I could also take the university shuttle. I take that during very cold days or stormy ones. It drops me off a corner on the street I live.

I think a lot of people are going to have to change the way they go to work. There is a point when gas will rise over $4.00 (and it will) they they are forced to change.

Glad to hear that you have a well covered path. ... and backup. (spray) (*thumbs up) I hope that you never have to use it.

The transit authority here has reported a spike in riders since the price of gas has gone up and I'm sure it will get worse, like you said. Perhaps we're learning a lesson the hard way like some kids do. Then, in the future, we'll all slap our foreheads and say, "Duhhhhh!"

I think corps. should take a big step toward allowing employees to tele-commut more. Even two out of five days a week would help.

You know, I've been thinking about why mass transit is not used more in this country. Americans love their cars and the freedom it gives them. They can go anywhere, whenever they want. Another reason they don't carpool is that to share a ride means you have to talk to them. Americans love to get up in the quiet of the morning and brood their way to work...alone.

My husband is like that. He won't carpool, would rather drive then take a plane or train. Oh he'll complain about the driving. More people drive then ever before, and it is scaring/upsetting older drivers.

I think you cross posted. What does Emma have to do with gasaline?

Hi, this is a really random comment, but can I possibly use your Jeeves icon? I am such a big fan of Jeeves and Wooster! I would definitely credit you. Plus, I love your "academia fandom" and math icons.

My husband made the math icon and the academia one. If you use that, credit DOS (my husband initials) He's not on live journal. Just a hobby for him.

He didn't do the Jeeves one. I have no idea who did that. My husband found that on another site. I was too big for LJ, so he cropped it.

He made this icon... :D

Thank you! This will bring me much happiness. I think the only one I will be using is Jeeves, thanks. They are nice work- it's my hobby too!

P.S. If you'd like to help promote through your own journal or userinfo, please feel free to snag a banner at the link below. [Please do upload it to your own server though so the comm doesn't exceed its Photobucket bandwidth limit!]
