Lobster, strawberry, tomato.
Skin hot to the touch,
crispy, stinging.
Burnt from the hot
orange ball in the sky.
Painful sensations
reminding you to bring on the SPF 30.

it was the green-river-time,
the sparkles, and the cool slide
of water and mud between my toes
the short, delighted breath
between the shade and shadow,
the sun and long, cool breeze,
hair streaming behind her smile.
ber ih-eee?? oh!! behr? ay!! ay-eee!!!
the last startled gurgle
lurches through my throat,
my ears clearing water as the boots
grind past my face.
"no! baby!" is delivered dripping
from her second womb.
the doctors are nervous, the nurses mill
until she gags, and returns
the stolen river to its bed.
the water doesn't clear for days.
