meme post, as promised! first, the usual end-of-the-year writing meme, snagged from infiniteskies:
01. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
i wrote a lot more fic than i thought i would. compared to last year, it's basically double the amount of documents, let alone the word count. i'm kinda proud of myself for that, actually-- most of it was one-shots, but it was a good turnout.
02. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
well, i never would've imagined in january that i would write any caspian/susan fanfiction-- if only because i had no idea who caspian was =P does that answer count?
03. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
i think when it comes to which story i like the most, i have to say ARIP, point-blank. i just love that plot so much, and i have so much fun writing it, you have no idea. i really just giggle my way through it, i love it. i don't necessarily love every scene of it, but the idea behind it, i'll never get tired of that.
04. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
i wouldn't say i took a risk, as that implies a conscious decision on my part, but i think i kind of ended up in risky circumstances. i tried a lot of different styles this year, various PoV and genres, and i think i paid off. i learned that even though it may feel weird to me, coming out of my comfort zone is not a disaster in an on itself. i just gotta brave through it and give it my best.
05. Do you have any fanfic or prolific goals for the New Year?
dude, i just want to write. whatever comes and goes matters not to me so long as i have the time and energy to write.
06. From my past year of writing, what was...
My Best Story:
i don't think i can really choose one. they're all so different, i wouldn't know how to compare them. yes, it's a cop-out, i know, but given the fact that 90% of the time my initial reaction to my fics is closer to the "OMG what did i just write?" (yeah, it takes me a while to warm up to my own writing), i really think they're all on even ground.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
without a doubt, i would say respite. i really liked the balance between dialogue and description in that fic, and the fact that i actually managed to write something that fits within the episode in a way that doesn't blatantly screw up the timeline. most of my other stories this year were written to fit after the episodes/movies, not within them. it was a challenge to figure out the timeline and i thought readers would appreciate that-- but it hasn't gotten much of a response. perhaps it's because it's more friendshippy than romance-y? *shrugs*
Most Fun:
i believe i've already mentioned ARIP; that plot is just to die for. i also thought the idea behind my untitled narnia ficlet was funny.
Most Disappointing:
moments like these. it just... didn't feel like it was what i was going for to begin with. it was rushed, and sort of didn't go anywhere. i feel really off my axis when i write without a plot.
Most Sexy:
none. i don't think i was sexy at all this year ^^;;;
Hardest to Write:
doesn't have to. oh, the heaviness of it was sheer torture. i lived off thesaurus.com for the whole time i spent writing it.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
ripple. i didn't even know i was still that hurt by HP's ending. it just kind of flowed out of me without any control.
Choice Lines:
"Yes, it's sad... because their orbits may cross, but they're both still revolving around the Sun..." --luna, on neptune and pluto; ARIP, chapter 3. this bit of dialogue here was the climax of the whole pluto analogy. it was what brought the whole thing up.
"Honey, you're very pretty, but you're not that smart." --cameron to chase about figuring out who house was going to fire next; bookmaker's choice. LOL, i always wanted to say that about chase ;) now i know why house loves to bug him about his perfect hair so much.
He rubs his eyes under his glasses and then sighs. "What do you think it means?"
That we could've had forever and we never knew, you want to say. And you know that he's thinking the same, or he will, given a little more contemplation. Still, the words won't go past your mouth. Instead, the silence is broken by a different whisper: "It can't mean anything." --harry and hermione about the twinge; ripple. aaaaaahhhhh, how do i break my own heart like this? i'm such a masochist...
He took her hand to his lips and reverently kissed it, lingering on her soft skin for too short a time, it seemed-- he only wished he could worship her that way forever. "I never forgot you," he said, his accented voice almost breaking with the weight of his sincerity and the depth of his feelings for her.
As he was lost again in her cerulean depths, her expression softened, her breath coming out of her in a sigh, like his words had hit her deeply. She wasn't sad... the word didn't even exist in this world. No, more than anything she was touched by his confession, and elated that he hadn't stopped caring about her even in the face of her transgressions. She slowly took her hand, the one that wasn't being lovingly held in his, up to cup his cheek. Her lips curled into a watery smile. "I'm sorry I ever forgot about you." The phrase was but a whisper, for she didn't want to break the moment with a cumbersome reminder of a life that never ultimately felt like it was hers. --caspian and susan; doesn't have to. this was the one point in that fanfic when i felt using the heavy/poetic style was absolutely worth it.
"Well, one thing's for sure: I'm never letting Lucy have a boyfriend." --peter, after approving of caspian as susan's suitor; perspectives. i still laugh every time i imagine this bit =P
