Humm, something's not quite right here...

Yesterday morning I was packing the kids up for the day - K to school, A to the babysitter - when I noticed something was not quite right about the way K looked.

Her eyelids were puffy and about 90% of her eyelashes were missing.

I started in on the questions. Did she cut her eyelashes off? Did she eat anything unusual? Did she hurt anywhere? And as the questions continued, I started having a very scared 6 year old.

I called the Pediatrician, we were going to be late for school, his office didn't open until 10 a.m. I called the emergency line, they wanted me to leave a message and they would call me back in 30 min. Then I called my backyard neighbor, she's a nurse and her husband is a Pediatrician, they said they'd call me back.

20 min. later, no way we're making it to school anytime soon, my neighbor called me back. They thought it was most likely Blepharitis - basically a staph infection in K's eyelids - and told me I should take her to her Pediatrician. It was 9 a.m. by then. I waited for 30 min. and then decided I might as well drive up to his office and walk in when they opened. This was a good idea, I thought, until I showed up and they told me he wouldn't be in until after 1 p.m., but I could go down to the Bear Care and have her looked at.

I went to the Bear Care and it happens that that is where my neighbor works - so he ended up seeing her anyway. They took a look at her and decided to stick with Blepharitis as the diagnosis. They gave me an ointment, which I have to put IN her eyes for the next 7 days and told me to keep her at home for the rest of the day.

Today her eyes are less puffy, still no eyelashes, but I sent her to school anyway. I gave her a hat to wear outside and told her teacher what was going on. Now the only hope is that they were right about what it was and that her eyelashes with grow back quickly.
