Wallet debacle:
1) Went to Whole Foods to buy food and such for the gathering at my house. Picked out yummy stuff.
2) Realized at the counter that I did not have my wallet. Check-out guy said he'd hold on to my stuff for a few minutes while I went to get it.
3) Drove home and realized it wasn't anywhere, must have left it at Ikea earlier in the day (stupid Ikea). Grabbed my passport and my checkbook and rushed back to Whole Foods.
4) Check-out guy said they don't take checks, but called over manager who also said they don't take checks. Gave them a WTF look and walked out (leaving my canvas bags, d'oh!).
5)Waited for Meredith to arrive, dragged her up to Safeway with me. Picked out new yummy stuff and went to the counter.
6)They ran my check and said that because I'd never written a check at that Safeway before, I had to run my ID card as well. My ID card was in my wallet.
7)They tried something else with the check and said that it had been denied, so then some other guy took my check and my passport and said he had to contact my bank directly. 10 minutes later he finally came back and said it was good and I could buy my food! Finally.
So it only took me an hour and a half and three trips to buy a couple bottles of wine and some cheese and crackers. Seriously, who knew that paying with a check would be such a pain?
Jen, Amelie, and their friend, Elaine, were waiting for us when we got back, and the rest of the evening was much more fun and alcohol filled. There was more wine and absinthe and cookies and such, and it was probably for the best that the other people didn't show up - I think it might have been a little too crowded. So now I know!
Good times, yay for happy endings.
