Finally have a couple of minutes to sit down and update. I still find it really quite unbelievable that there are days I just can't find the time to post here. For 10 years I have been addicted to this place and now there are days I just don't get here. It's really kinda hard to explain. On the other had, it's really not. Case in point:
Tonight we completed the final session of the first week of the Couch to 5K. It's a little bit late in the week but I had a splitting headache last night that had me down for the count pretty early in the evening.
Wednesday night after much complaining, I sucked it up and drove myself out to the Quarry Amphitheatre to meet some old workmates and listen to Lisa Mitchell. I had been looking forward to this concert for ages but then one of my friends bailed and then the weather turned particularly ugly all day. I really only went because I couldn't pull out on the plans with my other friends, having bailed last time we had arrangements. And I must admit that I was really glad that I went (
maelkann might have also told me to suck it up and go etc). It was really easy to get to the venue, there was a lot of parking and my friends were already there and had saved blanket space for me. I figured it might rain so I wore a big jacket, took a scarf and a garbage bag and a poncho. And it only rained briefly for only a few minutes during the warm up band. The rest of the time it was really clear and fresh. And the venue is truly gorgeous - inside an old quarry and overlooking the lights of the northern suburbs. Lisa sang beautifully and gave a really great performance and it was a truly surreal and uplifing evening. I'd been working on Steph Campisi's Above earlier that day and it struck me how similar I see them both - they both write such pretty words, pieced together so beautifully and carefully but underlying is sometimes a really powerful punch.
The upshot though was that going out Tuesday night had be up late enough that I think I broke through the jetlag because I haven't been waking up at 5am since! Hooray!
I've been watching a lot of Dawsons Creek since I got back - I'm aware I owe a final Buffy Season's 7 update and should get back into Angel as well. I'm a bit sad because I think this weekend I will finish Dawsons Creek and that kinda ends my nostalgic journey through the shows I loved in the 90s. (Though when I was thinking about this yesterday I remembered I have Dark Angel which I could do next.) For me, there was something about the crop of shows that came out of the WB at that time that never really was repeated. I mean, there have been great shows, great shows that I love but never really a whole week's worth of shows all at the same time. I think that for me too, there is something nostalgic and soothing about rewatching these shows because I loved them at a time in my life that was relatively safe and stable and predictable and also a stage in my life where I felt on top of things. And they're YA so they only skirt the questions of going out into the big wide world on your own and having to swim on your own. The problems and dramas are pretty small and manageable. I dunno what I'm gonna do when I get to the end? Maybe start over again with The Gilmore Girls?
