April Fools

We were talking a bit about it yesterday and can I just say that I really hate April Fool's Day. It's not just that it gives a bunch of people license to pull out jokes that aren't funny. It's that World Practical Joke Day is focussed on an element of "humour" that is not either clever or funny. Basically, practical jokes work by making someone the butt of the joke - it hinges on making one person the idiot or the gullible innocent whilst everyone else in on it, stands around and points and laughs (and is glad that it was already explained to them so they get it). The humour relies on in-jokes and exclusion of some in order to make the included feel superior and smarter. I don't like laughing *at* someone else. It has this pack hyenna feel to it.

Being smarter will always trump making someone else appear less smart than you.
