I have been internetless for a a couple of days. If you noticed, I love you too! If not, I hate you too! I will probably be operating at below capacity for several more days while I break/fix more stuff.

So . The only thing I got done off that previous list was the installation of the drive. And the floppy disk. Sort of. See, there was an incident with an IDE cable. In that I didn't have the right size, so my two computers lived in pieces on the living room floor for a couple of days. Poor Squishy, what a way to go.

Anywho. So I fish my [legit] copy of WinXP out of the bowels of my room (if you've seen it, you'd know), stick it in the drive, poke the BIOS so it boots from the CDROM. Setup screen appears with message that its loading drivers... and then BAM! BSoD. Yay.  The Error message given indicates that either my hard drive has a virus, or that I need to install some drivers if my drive is a serial ATA drive before continuing, or that something's just not connected right cause setup can't find the hard drive. Fun, no? P.S. I know it's lying about not being able to find the drive cause I can boot up Vista just fine all on its own. Wait, the story gets better from here. I don't have the drivers, cause new compy came in a box with no disc. Just a tiny sticker on the side of the tower claiming I had a license for Vista. No problem Cat, you say, download them from the internet, you say... well I say YOU THINK I DIDNT THINK OF THAT TOO?  In the WinXP setup, you can only load drivers from a 3 and 1/2" floppy disk. Simple enough, I happen to have such a drive to read such a disk that I already stuck into the tower. Only, it's not showing up. Not entirely sure if that's just Vista with a stick up its bum, or it's really not connected properly. Will have to investigate further.

I'm almost at the point where I'm thinking that maybe I should just give up, toss all the stuff from my old computer back in there and just wipe the drive on that one, make my Linux box, and learn to live with Vista.

To add insult to injury, the keyboard they shipped me makes springy noises everytime I hit a key. Not much for stealth typing. AND AND AND. They sent a ball mouse. Seriously. Who uses those anymore? Not I. Not you. Not anyone. I really hate you Microsoft, HP, and FutureShop for being the vehicle of this awfulness.

Still have not named the new machine.

Now I'm going to go watch Captain Jack make out with Captain Jack in HD to make myself feel better.

compy, torchwood
