Title: Purple Ray of Knowledge
Fandom: Supergirl
Characters: Kara "Supergirl" Zor-El
Prompt: 016. Purple.
Word Count: 369
Rating: G
Summary: Kara gets ready to learn about Earth culture through the purple ray of knowledge on Themyscira.
Author's Notes: Takes place during Supergirl’s earliest days on Earth.

She stared at the large, gun-like machine in front of her, a little unsurely. “Diana, I know you want the best for me and all that, really, I do, and I trust your judgment more than anyone’s…but is the purple ray really that necessary?”

“Kara, Kal wants you to be as familiar with Earth culture as possible. The purple ray here can do that for you. It can teach you practically everything you want to know - as well as a good many things you really don’t.”

“I could just hang out here and, you know, learn from you guys.”

Diana smiled and brought an arm around Kara. “You could, but you wouldn’t learn much about Man’s World, and that is where Kal wants you to truly be. This won’t hurt a bit.”

“Why should I learn about Man’s World anyway, Diana? I’m Kryptonian. I’m better than they are. They should be learning about me and following my example. Not the other way around.”

From a corner in the medical bay that Diana and Kara were in, Cassandra Sandsmark - Wonder Girl - sniggered. “You mean about how wearing a skirt that’s barely bigger than a belt from the 1980’s is the way to go while doing anything? No thanks, we have Paris Hilton for that.”

Kara gave Cassie a cold and piercing gaze, one that Cassie returned with equal coolness.

Diana, for her part, ignored the girls’ bickering and checked the straps holding Kara down in her seat to make sure that she was buckled in tight. “Kara, you know that that is not our way. We’re above that sort of thinking. We are not gods or goddesses, and we musn’t forget that. Even I, as a princess, and now as a queen, do not view them to be beneath me. It’s unseemly.” Starting the purple ray, Diana then remarked, “Though you should have no problem with the purple ray if you believe yourself to be so very much higher up than humans. You see, purple, on Earth, is considered to be the color of royalty.”

Kara couldn’t answer, as she was too busy learning about Earth culture, though she did have time to shoot Diana an icy look.

Title: Death of a Friend.
Fandom: Supergirl
Characters: Kara "Supergirl" Zor-El
Prompt: 030. Death.
Word Count: 189
Rating: G
Summary: Kara deals with her first experience with death.
Author's Notes: Takes place after Harbinger’s death.

She stared up at the statue of Harbinger, a lone tear cascading down her cheek. She’d never known anyone who had died before - well, there was all of Krypton - but this was different. She didn’t remember Krypton. She’d been hanging out with Harbinger until just a few hours ago, until Darkseid’s Doomsday clones had gone ahead and killed her, robbing her newfound friend of her life. Kara felt cold inside, lost. Harbinger had been the only person here who had really understood, who looked at her without any sort of doubts at all. She was the only one who saw her as anything other than Superman’s cousin, and now she was gone. Placing a wreath of flowers at the foot of the statue, Kara broke into an uncontrollable torrent of sobs, hating the empty feeling inside of her. But she would deal with it. She would remember Lyla and she wouldn’t let anyone else forget about her. She drew in a shaky sigh and ran a hand through her hair. On the bright side, there was no way that things were going to be getting any worse. Right?
