01x13: Concert Interruptus
I watched Concert Interruptus while I was folding laundry, which meant I didn’t get to take any notes. So just a few summations:
I love the Bangles. Just thought I should point that out. I sat through this episode singing along with all the songs. (Badly.) I love that they included a concert in this show! I bet their manager looooved getting that call asking to be part of an episode. Roswell only included one decent concert scene, and that was right after Alex died. So now, every time I hear that song (which I couldn’t name if my life depended on it, but I ALWAYS recognize it), I have morose Tess-hating thoughts. This was much more fun.
Loved that Lorelai gave up her tickets to help Rory build some relationships with those bratty girls. How interesting that the two dingbats (seriously, how are they not flunking out of Chilton?) were the most promising friends at the start of the episode, but ended up being the ones Lorelai hated by the end. It’s particularly ironic since they found Lorelai so fascinating! I suspect they like the idea of someone their age acting wildly and not apparently suffering from the consequences. All they see is a really cool mother/daughter relationship in a nice house full of vintage clothes. They obviously didn’t clue in to the realities behind that. I do wonder how things are going to be when Rory goes back to school, though!
The whole thing with Luke and the sweatshirt and …Nancy, was it?... was very interesting. Sookie was right: Lorelai was definitely jealous, which must’ve been weird for Lorelai to feel since she wasn’t even acknowledging that she had any interest in Luke. That was a good scene with them in the end when she gave back the shirt for the memories. It must’ve seriously wigged Luke out to see Lorelai, of all people, wearing that shirt.
And I love that Luke put up some promo thing for the rummage sale because Lorelai asked him to, but he won’t ever do that sort of thing for Taylor. Hehehe!
Oh, and after seeing the moment with Miss Patty and the drums, I’m beginning to understand more and more all the fascination with Miss Patty’s past. I suspect I’m going to be begging for a link to Mags’ story about her by the time I’m done with the series!
01x14: That Damn Donna Reed
I’m still trying to fold laundry, but I recognized the title of this episode right away as one that several of y’all have mentioned to me. I figured I’d just write my general impressions again. But 60 seconds in to the episode and I was in hysterics. The voice-over that Lorelai and Rory were doing was excellent! Then when Rory grabbed a Mary Poppins quote and called her mom “Sister Suffragette,” I had to make a run into the other room for my laptop. Let’s see how adept I am at matching up little girl clothes, typing, and watching this episode all at once.
Yeah, not doing so well. Taylor’s on a rant and Lorelai’s quoting “The Music Man.” This laundry’s not getting folded.
I love how Luke’s anti-sprucing-things-up stance melts the moment Lorelai offers to paint with him.
“I hate that he’s pleased.”
“You’ll drop a gum wrapper in the street in front of his store later.”
“Good idea.”
LMAO at the look on Lorelai’s parents’ faces at the idea of flying anything other than first class. *snort*
How did Lorelai ever learn how to sew? Her mom obviously didn’t know that she could sew that well, so was it a skill she picked up after Rory was born?
Wow. This is some fight Rory and Dean are having about the subjugation of housewives! Rory is a major little feminist! It’s funny that Dean made that crack about it being exactly what her mom thinks, when I suspect Rory is way more passionate about this than Lorelai.
Okay, so it just clicked with me. Rory brought home a bird. And she’s cat sitting tonight. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Oh, wait. She’s leaving the chick with her mom.
Hehehe… Luke’s customers are watching Lorelai as if she’s the dinner entertainment.
Bwahahaha at Taylor and Kirk’s bet! “Sorry man.” “It’s a little late for that, don’t you think?”
“The town council wanted to do a before and after poster.” HAHAHAHAHA!
“Everything stays.” Poor Luke isn’t going to change a thing. It’s pretty amazing he’s even letting Lorelai paint it.
This is a cute scene with Luke and Lorelai sitting on the floor reading the order his dad took on the wall. ….aww their moment was interrupted.
Oh. My. Lord. The entire town is outside there taking pictures and flipping out over the painting!
Aww… and they’re on their hands and knees there. Such a sweet almost moment!
Hehehe… Lane is planning to join the Siouxsie & The Banshees tour. Awesome taste. Love her stash under the floorboards!!! Pookie (whom my hubby wanted to name Siouxsie, btw) wants to know if people really store their CDs under their floor.
LMAO at Lorelai’s “Street Car” impersonation as she screams “Stella!”
“Who the hell is this?”
“Who else would call you asking for help with their baby chick? “
Hahahahaha! Love Rory’s dress. “It’s got a large circumference!”
Oh, Lordy, they’ve taken Lorelai’s house apart. They actually have the back off the piano, if I’m seeing that right!
Ooouch! Did Luke just dive through a window??
Hahahaha! The jello desert is awesome. And now she’s going to make rolls after they ate? “Donna Reed would never have forgotten the rolls! They’re going to make me turn in my pearls!”
“You did research on Donna Reed?”
LMAO at Dean and Luke taking the trash out together and questioning each other’s motives. “I’m looking for a chick!”
Oh god. I’m actually rolling on the floor laughing at Lorelai and Luke’s reaction as Rory comes running out in her Donna Reed outfit. DYING here. I can’t quit laughing. This is SO BRILLIANT. Pookie can’t figure out why I’m in hysterics.
Oh, no! They’ve lost another animal! “That’s it! We are not animal people! Period!”
Hehehe… Lorelai’s eating Michel’s breakfast. That omelet does look/sound awesome!
Aww, Sookie and Jackson have a serious relationship going on, apparently, based on Sookie’s story about the bat, lol!
Okay, I hope that Sookie isn’t putting ideas in Lorelai’s head that will make her freak out and withdraw from Luke!
…uh, oh… I think that’s exactly what happened. Darn it.
Okay, I just swung a coat hanger around and hit myself in the eye. Sookie is a bad influence.
I love how Lorelai and Rory are eating a snack and observing the conference call with Emily & Richard (about the house in Martha’s Vinyard) as if it were a sporting event. Reminds me of the town meeting.
“Rory’s decided to become a maid, just like I was.”
“Is that funny? My heart stopped! Why would you say such a thing?”
Wuh-oh. Emily now knows that Luke helped Lorelai find Stella. And she’s not letting the issue go! “He’s the male lead in every story you tell, you go to the diner every day, I’ve seen the way you look at him…I’m not a fool! Just tell me, do you have feelings for this man?” Aw, Lorelai’s never asked herself that.
Okay, there’s a one man band guitarist just strolling down the street. Does that sort of thing happen all the time?
And Lorelai has just made plans to ditch a FND in order to paint. How is she going to get away with that?
I love Taylor’s reaction to the motorcycle. And I’m a bit amused by the way Lorelai is drooling over the motorcycle, after having told Dean he’d better not have one and... Oh. My. Lord. Christopher. What a way to introduce him to the show. “Nice shirt - take it off.”
Did he just call her Laura? I had to rewind and turn on the subtitles. Okay, the subtitles didn’t show that he even used her name. But he so just called her Laura. AND he’s driving off with Rory on the motorcycle. My lord.
Okay, now I can’t wait to watch the next episode. This is interesting. Who is that actor anyway? David Sutcliffe reminds me of someone… Man, what’s this actor’s name that I'm thinking of? Ugh, this is driving me bonkers.
Okay, off to hang up the clothes, then fix dinner, the hopefully watch another episode sometime in the next year. *grumbles*
