I TOLD you. Christopher Eccleston wouldn't have looked like an icky old man. He would have looked HOT and broody and torn between two worlds, because he is Christopher Eccleston and he knows how to work dark, conflicted and smoking hot.
Although I maintain that if the costuming, makeup and wardrobe depts (and the director) had actually wanted to make Gary Oldman into a broody, sexy Sirius they could've done so. JKR said he was sexy! Why couldn't they have at least made an ATTEMPT to make Gary look that way?
Yes, yes and YES! WHY couldn't WB have done a better job in presenting Gary in all his hotness? Why did they have to make him look like a creepy pornstar, as you so aptly put it?
And yes, Thewlis is a sweety, but...yeah. Honestly, his depiction of Lupin is also much mousier than I picture him, too. I always pictured a very young Gene Wilder as Lupin - gentle but with mischievous eyes.
I agree on Thewlis's portryal of Remus. I always thought Remus would be more steady, more calm, with a quiet power behind it. Sort of a younger, more beaten down Dumbledore. Thewlis makes him so nervous and fidgety. You'd think a guy who could serve as a spy among werewolves would have to be pretty unflappable.
Oldman wasn't my cup of tea as Sirius. I thought Sirus would have jet black hair and look like the hot young student teacher in high school days. Almost Johnny Depp but maybe a bit less erm camp.
Funnily enoough though, even though Oldman isn't "my" Sirius, I felt kinda cheated when they did that wierd interpretation of a Floo-call in GoF the movie. THAT was not Sirius's head in the fire!
Well, that particular outfit would be a bitch to pull off, true. But it's possible to have a sexy 70s retro thing going on. I submit to you Eric Bana as Avner in Munich:
Look, girls, there's only so much you can do with makeup. Gary is 49; even playing a washed out 35-year-old is a stretch; you really think they could make him look 21? And Eccleston is 43.
And I know, I know - it's hard to make a 49 year old look like a hot sexy young thang. But I guess the point would be, then, that they should've cast someone younger.
*cringes at that admission* (I really do love Gary Oldman!!)
No, I think that Oldman plays the role brilliantly. But they should have used the "young Sirius" actor from the "Snape's Worst Moment" scenes for the old Order photos; closer in age.

I got so annoyed by that scene in general. If they had done the firecall the way they were supposed to then at least we could've seen his face!

Put yes, Eric Bana would have made a great Sirius with that look. Sigh. If only.
